I got accepted to pharmacy school a year ago but didn't go because of financial reason. I'm pretty sure I can get accepted for next year. I will be 28 when I enter pharmacy school.. Is it too late for me? Wouldn't I be oldies in Pharmacy schools?

Just to make you feel "not so old"....I will be 32 when I go to pharmacy school!! You are never too old!!! There are many people in their 40s and 50s who attend pharmacy school!! 😀 There is another thread that talks about all sorts of people going to pharmacy school!! There are many of us who just had a late start or want to do something they thoroughly enjoy!! 😀 Well, good luck to you!!!

its never too late to do what u want to do in life. education is something that has to age limit. i am 20 and one of my best friends who i met in college is 16 yrs older than me. u could calculate his age. he is one of those continuous students. meaning no matter how high his education level is, he'll still go to school and learn more. ur not even that old. ur 28. that age i heard is very common in a professional school and there are lots of people much older than u. there are people who are 30 doing undergrad in my university. i know people who graduated from pharm school in their late thirties. don't let age get u down. i am making u sound old. ur only 28!!!!

I am in the same boat. I too am 28, but like the others have said, it is never too late to pursue your dreams.🙂

I am 28 also and will be starting Pharm school in the Fall. My only worry was giving up my pension etc and going into debt after finally being rid of all my younger years worth of debt/mistakes. Also being a woman I want to have kids before my age starts effecting my health in that aspect. I will be graduating when I'm 32 (accelerated program). I think being late 20's is the perfect age for grad school. You are old enough to be wise and have struggled through enough to be able to handle the stress.. yet young enough to still chase your dreams with a young person's passion. At my interview they told me that the student body lies mostly between ages 25 and 30. Plus we live longer now! 30 is the new 20! lol

I think it would be sad if you let 365 days define the course of your life. If you are accepted to go to school then it is not too late.

Going to be 29 in May. I'm hoping to get accepted for fall of '08. It's never too late to go for what you really want.

I am also 28 and hopefully will be starting Pharmacy School this fall.

I will be in pharm school next August and I am 28 but I feel like only 23 🙂 It is never too late. My pharmacist who currently working with me in the Pharmacy , she go to school when she was 38 and still get out, work even better then the younger pharmacist 🙂

if u take care of urself and look younger then u will live longer. lets say u live till ur 80 and someone whose 20 now lives till their 60 then obviously u have the upper edge . If u look young and are healthy then thumbs up besides ur age is fine. U should enjoy ur experience in pharm school rather than see it as a chore bc when u do graduate u will just work work work. theres only so much money can buy to make u happy so those ppl who graduate pharm school when they are like 24 or 26 arnt that better off bc most of their fortunes and hard work will go to their kids but kids should learnt to work on their own than depend on mommy/daddy. anyways gluck and dont get why financial reasons caused u a year.

I want to post my age so badly just to tease all of you :meanie:.

The only negative thing I've noticed about older pharmacists is that they can be stubborn. If you are flexible and can adjust to changes well, you'll do fine!

I'm nearly 24 right now, and am JUST starting my pre-pharm. If I get in when I hope to then I'll be 30 by the time I graduate. It's ok, one thing I've learned from this forum is that there are lots of "older" people out there in pharmacy school. Kudos to those that actually manage to be a pharmacist at 24, but it doesn't appear to necessarily be the norm. 🙂

You're right. It's not really the norm anymore. I'll be 26 when I graduate. Hopefully I can start a master's program early :luck: and be finished with it when I'm 27. Although, that might take some fanagaling.

No matter how old you are, pharmacy school is a test of endurance. I've probably taken 60-65 exams so far. The only advantage of starting early is knowing that you'll finish early. If you aren't worried about time, then it doesn't matter when you start.

I will be an "older" student when I start, I am 29. When I started my prereqs I had the same concern. I figured in 3 years I could be a 32 year old Pharm D just starting out or a 32 year old doing the same old job and not doing what I want. It doesnt matter how old you are, I have a friend who is 40 and taking prereqs for med school. Find something you enjoy and go for it.

from an honest perspective age would be a problem from 45 and upward in my opinion. the reason is that you are close to retirement in a sense, why graduate when ur 50 and spend ur remaining time working. life is about enjoying urself and being free to relax too. i never understood why people go to 4 years of professional schools when they are close to 50 but thats their choice. this was an honest opinion that many share im sure, nevertheless if ur doing it to ensure ur kids have a great future and ur putting them ahead then hats off to u.

Did LLU not hold your spot? I know you were moving across country for it. Are you applying closer to home this time or have you managed to move and are now reapplying? I know it's off topic, but it's your thread so I figured I'd go there. In terms of age, I'm 30 and will be 34 upon graduation. With more and more schools requiring more prereqs and sometimes putting priority on Bachelor's degrees, more and more applicants fall into the mid to upper twenties as opposed to your 20 year-old, 2 years of prereqs applicants. Especially when you figure people taking 5 and 6 years to get their "4-year" degree.

Hey
LLU did not hold my spot. They said I will need to reapply. Well a lot of things happened. Grand ma passed away went back to Africa and did not finish the one prerequisite left. Now I'm kinda working. Saving some money and just finished up the prerequisites and adding a couple courses. Will start also Pahrm Tech certificate next month. The bachelor is already in pocket.
So I'm back to ground zero in the heard of applicants!!!! Looking for school closed to home this time. I will be applying to LLU though and also UCSD. I love Cali man!!!!

Definitely some good application material there. (Small consolation, I'm sure) I don't see how you could be any less competitive than you were last year. If anything your chances of acceptance should be better. I'd say go for it. Why hold back?(rhetorical question, but feel free to answer if you wish.)

Yeah I know I hope I'm as competitive as last year. Well my mum is urging me to get married(Only boy in the family..kinda funny, you know conservative family!!). I'm still scared of the load of loan!!! lol. Admission wise I'm trying to put up a good application. I will get into at least one. When Ya applying?

When Ya applying?
Got in last year. Currently at USC. It's great fun, you'd enjoy it.

As for getting married. It's a personal thing. I got married at 26, the oldest of the kids in terms of age at wedding day, and there are 8 of us. I wouldn't let the pressure get to you. Financial stress is one of the highest ranked reasons for divorce. If you don't choose wisely, or you don't handle it well yourself, it may be best to wait. Though I wouldn't wait just because of finances if everything else is in place.
