Is it TRUE???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
further elaboration: 7 days on....7 days off. hospital and retail.

ok....so that means working everyday!!!

how many people do it???!!!

i don't really know how many people do it....I know one night pharmacist at the hospital I work at who does this but he does it at another hospital

it is a good concept and good money but I think it is a quick way to burn yourself out. I would do full time and maybe prn somewhere else/part time

you could also look into express scripts home visualization and work night shift in retail/hospital

Damn, you have to be determined to be doing that. Met one of my pharmacist today at my rotation who used to do it, took his laptop to the retail store at night and used to play poker online lol

I thgt he was just kiddin

i know I can't believe people do that either. I think I would go crazy working so much.

now that you got me thinking, its actually not that bad.

7 nights at hosp,7 nights at retail likely from 9 pm -7 am. Say goodbye to your nightlife and I am sure you can restore them when you get burned out by all this (I bet...6 to 8 months) 😀

Really, you don't want to work that much. I was a tech at a hospital and we always had somebody who was calling in, so they offered overtime. I usually worked 12 or 13 days out of 14, and it was exhausting. Sure its a nice chunk of money, but you'll definitely burn out. If you really need extra money, see if you can prn/float somewhere, don't go for another full time position.

Besides, there are too few available positions anyway for you to be taking two 😛

I guess if you have no gf/bf or a dysfunctional family, you can do 7 days a week. I did 21 day straight once and it was not fun. I got cranky and my judgement was impaired. There is always a risk and benefit that you have to weigh and anything is possible.

If you attempt to practice pharmacy seven days a week without a break consider yourself in a race. The only question is will you burn out before or after you injure somebody. This is a TERRIBLE idea. There has to be another way to pay off your loans.

This is an accident waiting to happen. How will you pay your loans off after your license is taken away?

I could see a new grad working everyday. It's not very different from school + work + studying + activities.

The farther away from school and the older a person is, the harder it is to stay super busy.

As a side note, how many people know someone who works 2 or 3 jobs? It's not that unheard of or different from working everyday.

I agree with lovely Jane, its actually quite similar to my situation right now. Rotations during the week and work at my store during the weekend. The only difference would be 1) I will have to work night 2) I will get PAID!

Again, I am not sure if I will do this but if I do, I will quit when I get burned out.

I worked full time hospital (40hrs) and part time at retail (~10hrs a week) for a while. That was reasonable...but I don't think I could handle 40hrs a week at both. Money or paying off loans a few yrs earlier is not worth your sanity.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your salary while doing that?

There is NO and I mean NO comparison to anything you do at school, including rotations of any kind and being responsible for the health and welfare of other human beings. I don't care how old you are. Practicing pharmacy for 80 hours per week will only lead to one of two outcomes, burn out or a serious error. The only question is what will occur first.

You are not speaking about a few extra hours. You are speaking of working 16 hours per day, seven days per week until the inevitable crash... It is NOT reasonable or doable.....

I agree 100%.

Look at medical residents and what happens when they do 24-48 hour shifts. They don't function, they make mistakes, they kill people.

Not only are you a danger to others that you treat but also yourself, the profession with the highest car accident rates are physicians because of their crazy shifts and long hours.

don't fool yourself, its a dumb idea.

Not that I agree with doing this, but 80 hours a week works out to less than 12 hours/day.

Right. I'm not sure where these horrifying 16 hour shifts are coming from...

If you work 7on/7off, you're likely to be working 10 hour nights at a retail store and getting paid for 80 hours... unless you work for CVS (according to OldTimer), which slaves you out at 12 hours/shift.

So then what do you do for an entire week while you're off? Waste money. Or just spend money. Or twiddle your thumbs. Or work.

16 hours for 5 days....you WILL get burned out..I totally agree!!

If you work nights (7 days X 10 h) is not horrifying, like you make it sound, you just work everyday until you decide you need days off to relax.

The other advantage is if you have family and kids, you get to spend time with them before you go to work at 9 pm
or
you could catch the twilight special at your fav golf course everyday 😀

Definitely working everyday is not a good long term idea,at least I don't intend to!

It's also possible to steal oxy and sell it if you're desperate for money. In fact, that might be better for your health.

I'd rather pole dance than work 80 hours/wk. F that noise.

lol...pole dancing requires some skills, you sure you can handle it ?! 😛 😉
