General Chemistry 1 : C+
General Chemistry 2 : A
Organic Chemistry 1 : A-

I had serious health issues (surgery) that affected my academic ability during my freshman year.
Would these grades viewed as upward trend? I am concerned because I dropped A in gen chem 2 to A- orgo.

Thank you.

An upward trend is about our overall semester GPA over time. No one is going to analyze class by class. And an A and A- are both great grades. There is no significant difference.

Upward trend example would be freshman year: 3.13 cum GPA, junior year: 3.79 cum GPA
Class by class not so much, but you can use this to your advantage as saying this is an academic struggle you went through in your interviews.

I think they mostly look at your GPA by year like Freshman sophomore or 30 cred, 60 cred, 90 cred etc and maybe per semester but not sure. Either way you should feel good about yourself for learning from gen chem 1 (easiest of those three classes) and then smoking As in chem2 (math) and orgo (conceptual.)
