Is it weird that I can never really reason through my correct answer?

On UW, I've been getting around 70% correct per block but I never really know how to feel about my knowledge base. I never really have a good reason for picking correct answers and I feel like I'm just answering based on test taking skill or because I vaguely remember seeing something in the stem and one of the answer choices on the same page of FA at some point. Basically, what goes through my mind when I'm answering questions is, "well...none of these other ones make sense..." or "I don't know what the hell this answer choice is talking about but it sounds kinda right". Most of my answers are just based on gut feelings.

Is this normal? I feel like I should be able to clearly reason out and articulate my reasoning for answers at this point but it's just not there. It worries me because this might come back to haunt me if the real thing is as hard as people say it is.

Happens often to me. If you're maintaing a good score and able to do the same on nbmes then it shouldn't matter

Yup that sounds perfectly normal. I did that a lot on the real thing too. It's a very uncomfortable way of taking a test b/c you leave some questions not knowing for sure how you did with it. At times on the real thing I couldn't tell if I was making educated guesses or if I was randomly guessing once I got it down to two answer choices. Scored in the 250s

The clinicians who make these questions do this for a reason. This is sometimes how the practice of medicine is. Sometimes you won't always know what's going on with your patient, and you go by your gut instinct. That's what makes a good clinician. Though I know me saying this won't make the test any more easier =P

Good luck! 😀

That's basically me... then you get pimped IRL and it's not multiple choice and the attending thinks you're ******ed
