I'm wondering about any success stories from outside scholarships. It seems fruitless.

There are government scholarships (HPSP and NHSC) have service requirements. The private ones are usually much smaller and almost always based on need. Some scholarships are usually awarded to MS4s once they decide on their specialty.

There aren't really many outside scholarships for medicine in general, because physicians are very capable of paying back their loans.

Thank you for correcting me on that. But the vast majority of these have extremely specific requirements. Such as being raised in a specific county, being a certain gender living in a specific state, showing interest in a specific field. So the average applicant can really only realistically apply to a couple handfuls.

Undergrad scholarships, on the other hand, exist in uncountable amounts.

Plus, I wouldn’t settle for a $30,000 scholarship that required me to go to family medicine when I could just apply for NHSC and get all expenses covered (idk if they give stipend though). The only difference would be location of practice and the importance of that varies from person to person.

Didn't make it through the whole list, but, from the dozen or so I saw, you have to already be in medical school for most of these scholarships if you even qualify. I'm just gonna save this list for next year.

I am in a similar position. I have looked through many of these scholarships on various schools' websites and they pretty much always are things I don't qualify for due to race, SES, heritage, etc. Some of them also have really early application deadlines and I didn't really start thinking about this until a couple weeks ago. I plan to keep looking, but I am not really having much luck.
