You know how sometimes the marines sends you these postcards and they ask you for your address, e-mail and school information and in return for that information they give you a booklet about recruiting and something free like a backpack or a shirt or jacket. Any way is it worth giving them my information? Will I regret it later?

um....you know what you're giving (your contact information), and you know what you're getting (a free shirt/whatever, and an endless supply of Marine propaganda sent to you). If you REALLY need help making this decision you may want to consider another career that requires less decision making.

what I am asking is that did anyone do this before? Will recruiting officer later be forcing me to join the marines?

They will certainly start pelting you with letters now that a certain war in the Middle East has been dragging on for years... 🙄

They will still get your info, so you might as well get something for it.

but they can't make me join right?

hey I just want to make sure, sorry if I come out as annoying, I just dont want to take a big risk

actually ive heard of one story where a marine recon team dynamically enters your house, binds you with zipties and carries you off to the waiting blackhawk helicopter which takes you to iraq. I heard the flight is non-stop so it might be worth it after all.

edit* ...and if thats a serious question, do you honestly think the marines expect your life for a tshirt or hat or possibly even both?!?!?

No, they cannot "force" you to join. The US does not do conscription. Read the fine print, I'm sure there's some reassurance on the brochure somewhere. The only thing you are required to do with respect to the military is register with the SSS when you turn 18.

You can't be forced to join until you officially sign up. For more information, contact your local recruiter. We should probably not draw this out as a military recruiting discussion here though.

If you give them your address you will get a lot of mail. I believe universities, if approached, have to hand over certain information for you. I never gave the Army my school issued e-mail address but I certainly got e-mail. I'm not sure how it works, but I can only deduce my school gave it out. A few replies of I respect what you're doing, but I am not getting recruited finally did the trick.

Dude,

Please stop trolling. I am not sure what your issue is with the US military, but please stop posting these bizarre threads. Also, recruiters have a big enough job trying to get normal people to enlist, please don't waste their time if you have no intrest in the Corps.
