I'm an NC resident with a 3.9 GPA/518 MCAT wondering if there's any point in applying to UCSF out-of-state? I've been pretty wary about applying to OOS publics with no close state ties but I've has this school recommended to me a few times and am wondering if applying's worth the $...

Yeh ull get a secondary. Can’t say you’ll get an interview tho cuz ull be competeing with applicants like me. But yeh ull fosho get the secondary

UCSF is one of the public schools that are pretty OOS friendly, as a UC school they have a slight in-state bias but overall if you’re app is competitive for top schools you’ll have a shot there

Worth a shot if you're app is strong. N=1 had luck with a few OOS state schools including UCSF, but definitely depends on the rest of your app like others have said.

UCSF doesn’t have particularly strong preference for IS, and interviews/accepts a large number of OOS students. If you’re interested, I’d think it’s worth applying.
