I have a problem with finishing prereqs and am a little unsure of what to do...

Ok, so I already fulfilled my school's year-long "writing" requirement (and all the basic science prereqs), assuming that it would work for the English prereq at med schools too. BUT...since I took the classes outside the english dept, there are a few schools that won't accept them. My list has about 30 schools right now, and most seem to be ok with non-English...

So...I can either cram in an english course this semester and take the second in summer or fall, or can cram them in over the summer/following semesters (since some schools have fall deadlines for finishing prereqs), and I'm not sure which one to go with. Either way I won't be done with prereqs, but with the first option, I'm closer to being done--but I'm studying for mcats right now and am not sure of how to handle another class (esp since the only english class i could get into is pretty demanding) when I already have a lot going on this semester.

With the second option, I'm going in incomplete (the schools I'm applying to are all ok with that, but some prefer that I be complete), but will have more time to focus on mcats and such. It'll also cost me more, but I can handle it.

So, basically, which option sounds the best? Obviously I'm leaning towards just putting it off, but I'm worried if my application might be hurt by missing this prereq. I've also been told that the English prereq isn't as big a deal as the science ones, but that was from a friend, so...yeah...

Sorry if this was kind of convoluted. This has been stressing me out for a while 🙁

Thank you ahead of time for your replies!

Most schools just want the prereqs complete before you matriculate...

Sounds like you want to do option b and I'd say that's good.

I will (hopefully) be starting med school in the fall, am out of school now, and need to enroll in an English course this upcoming summer before matriculation. It's no big deal, but I do wish I took it in college so my last summer before med school didn't have to be spent in a classroom with a bunch of freshmen. That being said, sounds like the benefit of taking it later on outweighs any potential costs for you.

who said it had to be some intro course with a bunch of freshmen? those courses are usually garbage, esp when you have the chance to go really in depth on someone like Shakespeare, Milton, Joyce, James, Chaucer, poetry, contemporary fiction.... don't do something lame, learn something new and cool.

it's not like you even need to worry about the grade, you're already accepted and it's not like you'll make worse than a C, anyway. take the chance to grow a little...

hmm...alright, it sounds like applying without finishing all the prereqs should be fine? The summer class I'm looking at are pretty short, so I'd have the grades by 7/1, so I guess I could send them in...

Summer class it is then (?) 🙂

which schools don't take the writing requirement outside of the english dept?

What I've confirmed: Albert Einstein and University of Maryland. Someone else on the board said Mt. Sinai too, but I haven't checked that since I'm not applying there.
