So it looks like I'm either going to fail or get a D in one of my classes. Im pretty confident that if I retake it I could get a B minimum. As a freshman student, is it worth retaking classes for your average for the AMCAS GPA?

The class is not a science class if that matters.

Actually it doesnt matter whether you retake a class or take a different class, each will have the same impact on GPA. Retaking a class doesnt somehow directly “fix” the initial take. Furthermore, you have already been exposed to the material once so ab adcom would expect an A. Anything less than that would raise the question “gee this guy cant an A even the second time?”

In sum, you should never retake a class for med school unless it is below acceptable prereq grade

What makes you so confident that you will get a B minimum if you are failing right now?

Repeating a course does not necessarily give you an advantage. There are people who failed the same course 2-3 times and could not even get a C.

Im failing simply because I didn't turn in a major assignment that was worth nearly half my grade for the entire class. I still had the highschool mentality that I could get away with turning in things late. Was definitely in for a rude awakening.
