I'm a rising senior in college, planning to apply to Goucher, Bryn Mawr and Hopkins post-baccs (among others) this fall.

I'll be in Virginia visiting family next week, so theoretically I could drive to all 3 of these schools in one day trip - do you think it's worth trying to visit the schools before applying, considering that most programs require on-campus interviews anyway if you get to that point?

If I do visit, what kinds of things should I pay attention to?

TIA. 🙂

My own personal opinion is that how would it matter? As in what would you get out of a visit besides looking at the aesthetics and getting a feel for the culture, and fun spots of the area. I don't think you will have time to care about your surroundings much and you probably won't have time to take in the culture or extracurriculars.

But then again on the flip side it cannot hurt to poke around a bit. I would maybe pay attention to the science facilities and if its a school with a teaching hospital attached to it maybe take a tour of the hospital as will. Both of those well provide some good interview fodder, and show that you have really taken the time to investigate the school.

Good luck.

Well, I just wanted to go to good ole state U. for my lacking prereqs and I was torn between a couple of institutions, my alma mater and the other place. I wanted to go to the other place due to the nearby recreation (Lake DeGray, Ouachita Mountains, etc) but then I realized I'd recreate more than I'd study. That said, I elected to go back to my alma mater where there's not a damn thing to do, lol. The other place was nice, but besides my jokes above I just wasn't feeling it when I toured the place.

Happy hunting.

If you're going to have an on-campus interview anyway, I'd say don't bother. If you just show up without some sort of organized plan, are you just going to wander around, asking where the post-bacc classes are? When you have your interview, you'll be assigned current post-baccs who will take you to class, lunch, answer your questions. Just wait for that.

I can vouch for Bryn Mawr having a beautiful campus that wouldn't be bad to spend a post-bac at. Not a ton to do in the immediate area, but it's very easy to get to center city Philly on SEPTA's R5 train.

I personally think your time would be better spent enjoying your family.
