Hello,
I'm a junior cell/molec pre-med beginning to look at med schools.
My GPA is low, currently at a 3.46 but I am studying hard this semester to hopefully bring it up
However, I work at mayo clinic in rochester as a lab assistant(not research but help sort through 30,000 specimen a day), shadow/observe surgeries and volunteer as a surgical messenger helping communicate between the nurse educators and patient's family before and after surgery.
I also research with a top doctor at Mayo in ENT (ranked #2 specialty in the nation) who has published 140+ papers and I will be getting published soon.
Additionally, I have a job as a patient care assistant in the town I go to school in.
I will be shadowing surgeons in Croatia this winter to get a feel of the different health care system in Europe since I moved here from Bosnia when I was 5 (first generation immigrant white female).
I am currently studying for the MCAT and hope to get above a 513.
Although my GPA is low...do you think my EC related with Mayo help?
I also am a member of a sorority, hold leadership positions in the sorority, on the comittee for a cystic fibrosis fundraiser in sorority, pre-med club, german club, french club.
any suggestions as on where to apply? i'd love Mayo obviously or somewhere on the west coast
I am planning on getting LOR from my supervisor in the lab, doctor i'm researching with, doctor i've been shadowing & from the head surgical messenger volunteer (she sees how passionate and caring I am with patients and their families)
I appreciate it!!
@LizzyM @Goro thoughts?

Your chances for any school will depend on your MCAT. It's really not possible to give good advice now on your chances. In the mean time buy the MSAR and start developing (or at least research) schools that fit your GPA. A 3.46 is really more in line with DO school stats.

I am planning on purchasing the MSAR to get a list idea of schools, but I am hoping a high MCAT score can help me out.
I am making GPA my number one priority so I am planning on having it up by the time I apply...Currently in Organic Chem right now and it is killing me.
I wasn't planning to pursue DO but I will apply to a few as well!
thanks for your help! I appreciate it.

No need to start thinking about anything until you get a MCAT score
