Is MD possible?

Hi all, I know its hard to know without my MCAT score but I'm not taking it until March.

I'm a post back (2nd degree seeking student)
my sGPA is 3.53
cGPA including both degrees: 3.57
post bacc GPA 3.70, but my last 4 semesters were over 3.85 each with upper level science courses only, including 2 semesters of 4.0

I'm wondering what med schools look at trends as mine is a very very steep upward trend. I'm also going to be applying to DO schools as well. My state school is U of Colo

I think you would be fine, especially as you are applying to DO schools. I believe many medical schools consider upward trends.

I am not familiar with too many DO schools, but apply to all of your DO and MD state schools. Add more once you get your MCAT, and add schools that are similar to your stats based on the MSAR.

People are going to ask what your MCAT is because it depends on that. 3.53 isn't deadly for MD, especially with an upward trend

You could def do DO even with like a 25 MCAT + 3.6 GPA

I believe Wayne State measures your GPA based on your last 30 credits if you did a post-bacc. So you should look into schools that have similar policies. Regardless, do as well as possible on your MCAT.

You are a shoe in for osteopathic school. They calculate GPA more generously for their stats, so you may end up with a 3.6 or better. For an MD, I'd shoot for a 33 MCAT. If you get 30+ you have a fair shot, especially at your state school.

Thank you guys! I have one more question,
This semester my final semester on this 7 year journey (4 regular college, 3 post bacc) I'm taking biostats, biochem II, medical microbiology, and O chem II lab in addition to studying for the MCAT and research. Would it look bad if I took a 1000 level chem class called "chemistry for the everyday". It's online and could raise my sgpa by 0.02 plus it looked like fun since all the experiments are things you can do at home.

I don't think they would care as long as you meet the gen chem requirements that every school has!
