So recently I interviewed at Midwestern and was fairly impressed with how nice the facilities and really the whole environment on campus was in general. The faculty seemed like they really cared and the students had a lot of positive things to say. The total cost for attending though would be around 450,000 when all is said and done. A lot of the students there actually said they picked Midwestern over their state school. The faculty really did make it seem like you are given a competitive advantage by going there. Does anyone currently attend therr and have any thoughts? As of now I am waitlisted at one school and have heard nothing back from the othet 10. If i have to reapply next year would it be better to not take an acceptance to Midwestern and try for my state school next cycle?

just remember fixed cost at mwu-az is about 350k (including maximally allowed tuition and fee increase over 4 years) and other living expense you can try to cut down. the living expense in glendale is not that expensive.

I think at the end you have to ask your self is one bird in hand (one acceptance) is better than 1 beter bird in bush (your state school).

MWU-AZ is pretty expensive. However, if that's the only school you are accepted, I would just go for it. Your life quality may be a little bit lower than average dentist after graduation, but I would just tackle into the world of dentistry as soon as possible, that's me though. Waiting for another year with uncertainty will kill me.

If you are from Texas then the difference is quite significant. I would definitely give it another shot, but some of the state schools like mine are 400K anyways so it's pointless to waste a year over 50K.

I agree with Bars. IF your state school is significantly cheaper, then that is something worth trying. However, if there isn't a huge difference in terms of cost, then MWU-AZ seems like a great option even with the cost pretty high.

I got the impression that MWU AZ is better at recruiting than other dental schools as far as interviews went; however, I don't think they are as perfect as they make it sound.

There is no perfect school out there. They run the school as a business a quite successful business that treats their students as customers.
They operate as a Swiss clock, at least that was the case with me. In my opinion in MWUAZ you will fill like you are spending 450K on you education vs spending a little less and going to state school with outdated facilities where nobody gives a s...t about your satisfaction.

Not sure what state you're from, but every state school I interviewed at had great, modern facilities and an extremely kind faculty

Anything "special" Midwestern can teach you can be learned for a fraction of the cost in CE courses after graduation which will be either paid for by your employer or tax deductible if you're a business owner, not student loans compounding at 6.8% interest.

Every dental school in the US will provide you a world class education. Students who choose the cheaper school will always have the financial advantage. End of story.

Every school in the US provides students outstanding resources for becoming a world class professional. It is the responsibility of a student to extract the best of what is provided and the level of competency of a graduate reflects the level of his/her involvement in the educational process.
My point is that every educational institution provides a different environment and to pay extra $ for a place that fits you better is ok.

So the consensus is take it if i get in nowhere else seeing how competitive dental school has become?

I'm a fourth year at MWU AZ and I have yet to fully know if it will be worth the cost, having turned down another d school with half the cost of tuition. Nonetheless, I have absolutely loved my dental school experience here. You can actually see where your tuition money is being spent in terms of nice facilities, technology, awesome faculty, etc. If you have time and money to kill, and really think you're going to get in to your state school next year, by all means though.

care to enlighten why u turned down the other d school with half the cost?

The other dental school was completely opposite of Midwestern. It was one of the oldest in the country, had super run down facilities, not enough chairs, the students didn't seem as happy. I was told that all schools are good so go for the cheaper one, but I also interviewed at MWU AZ first which "ruined" everywhere else for me.
