I want to rank Mt Sinai #1. And although I don't care to specialize in Cardio or GI, I still want to go to an academic institution for the learning.

Lifestyle is extremely important to me, and I don't want to go above 80 hours a week every week, and be worked to death. Can anyone comment on the quality of life for Mt Sinai IM residents?

in a word, no. it's very well known to be the friendliest of the academic NY programs. this vibe was pretty obvious to me when i interviewed (as was the contrast with the other NY programs).

From my day there its seemed their residents were quite happy....like the real kind of happiness....not the deluded kind. Intern year is going to be tough everywhere, but this program understands work/life balance compared to other highly regarded programs I visited.

Are you sure you actually interviewed there? It's well known as the "cush-est" of the NYC academic IM programs.
Will you work hard? Yes.

Will you learn a lot? Yes.

Will you get way more time off than your colleagues @ NYU or Columbia? Yes.

Yes i did interview here.
But at interview day, i feel like everything is glorified at every program that its hard to tell whether residents are really happy or putting up an act.

Can any residents chime in?

Hells no! lol

On a more serious note. I am a housestaff at sinai and seriously, definitely not malignant at all. I absolute love this program. It has the quality you could ask for in terms of teaching, quality of house staff, excellency in general and still with the type of "heart" you would hope a program would have.

The vibe you get on the interview day is the only vibe we have. I recently met an inteviewee that came for a second look. He wore a white coat so i did not even know he was a "second looker". He was totally in awe at the end of the day.

Needless to say, go where you would be happy but for me, chose this and absolutely no regrets! Good luck guys
