Is my Canadian DAT score good enough even if my carving score is 3?

Hello guys,

I know most private schools do not look at carving score for Canadian DAT. But my carving score is VERY low. Should I retake my DAT again even though my scores are high in other sections. Thanks!

try calling the schools you applied to and asking, don't rely on the information that will get provided to you on this site.

Just out of curiosity, did you drop your soap?

Was the carving section difficult? I'm a Canadian as well, and I am very nervous about the carving section. Since, I never really have any carving experience.

what is this carving section u guys talk about? i have some suggestions cross da border and take the test in america 😉

In the Canadian DAT, we have to do the carving section instead of the Quantitative Reasoning section. Which is too bad, since I am great in Math. For the carving, we're suppose to carve a specified model out of a cylindrical bar of soap specially made for the DAT.

whats the carving score out of? 30 as well?

Retake the test. Practice carving. Or cross the border and take the american one. If i recall, most schools dont accept the Canadian DAT. You will have to do research on that.

i am a canadian applicant as well. Here is what I found out from my research

Most schools do accept the CDN DAT. (UCLA doesnt )

Schools will look at the relevant sections of the DAT that are the same in the American DAT. Therefore ur score for AA, TS, CHM, BIO, PAT will count as ur big sections. But some schools will look at the carving and may nto be too happy with it.

I would call up the schools directly. Each school has a different policy on whether they will include the carving as a subsection in there application review. (ie some schools will look at it as a small component of the score.. while others wont look at it all)

My advice is that if u already applied for this round just wait it out and see maybe u might get some openings. However if this is for the 2008 cycle.. i would strongly recommend writing either the feb cDAT or just write the American DAT whenever ur ready.

goodluck hope that helped.

I think you can write the American DAT at some Prometric Centres in Canada.

The reason that I wrote the Canadian DAT b/c I still have a shot for my in-province school (UBC) given my GPA. So, I just applied for UBC this application cycle, and I am 100% sure that my carving score is too low for this cycle.

I will graduate from my undergrad degree next year, so I want to maximize my chance of getting into a school by applying to US schools in addition to US. I will write the Feb. Canadian DAT for sure.

But, what if my second Canadian DAT's science and PAT are lower than the first one, but the carving is higher? Which one will US look at?

I have done my research, and I believe all private schools take Canadian DAT.
Thanks~!

no offense, but did u practice for ur carving??? anyone who applies to canadian school should know that carving is important. (why do canadian schools value carving so much anyways?? or why do americans not value carving at all?)

Weird s**t happens all the time. Toronto is the only school that doesn't look at carving, so they must not think its important. The PAT was designed as a replacement for the carving component as it apparently tests the same thing but only in a paper format.
