I was wondering if this course load is too much, since I will take these classes in the winter of my freshman year. I'm going to take Ochem, physiology, and calculus. Do you think it's possible to ace all the classes? How are these classes different from high school classes - I took physiology and calculus in high school.

In my opinion, I would soften up your classes for freshman year. It's hard to adjust from high school studying habits to college studying habits instantly, so it's better to pad it a little early on. Your GPA will look better.

You'll find when your grades get posted in december. Only you know your limits.

If you are the average college student, probably. If you have good time management skills than it shouldn't be a problem.

I agree with this guy. +1 😀

I wouldn't take less or more than you can handle.

No need to be a hero first year. Settle in and learn how to be a successful college student. You'll have plenty of hard semesters ahead of you.

This could be a really important decision. Your entire career can sometimes depend on it. People make the mistake of not giving themselves time to adjust to college all too often.

Why do you think that an upward grade trend is the most common? Is it because the classes are getting easier? No. It is because you will learn to study more and better than you ever have.

Start yourself off gently for the sake of your GPA. Go easy on yourself while you are adjusting to college life. Why risk it? It is really necessary to take ochem, calc, and physiology all in the same semester in your freshman year? No.

If I could go back in time and change the classes I chose to take freshman year, I WOULD. My GPA would probably be 0.2 - 0.3 points higher.

In the end, this is your decision, but just look at the statistics. Most people get their lowest grades during their freshman year. ITs just a fact. Why fall into the statistics? I am not saying that you should take all easy classes, but take out physio and put in an easier pre-rec like english or something. Just my advice.

Most of all, you will do fine no matter what you chose to do, but you will probably do BETTER if you lighten your load a little.

BEST OF LUCK 🙂
Best,
C

Assuming all answers are yes:

Do you have a job?
-Then no.

Do you have a GF who's very needy?
-Probably no then.

Do you have a social life?
-Probably no then.

Are you a freshmen?
-No then. (winter classes? Isn't that like only 1 month long? If so..strong no.)

Do you REALLY want to risk your chances to med school cause you wanted to rush into things? In my opinion, take it down a notch :/

I have a similar schedule as OP's. I'd recommend op to take Org Chem in sophmore year and adjust to the transitional study habits of college.
I have a question about schedule, can it be doable to take gen bio I and gen Chem I along with English composition and psychology in one semester?

That is a pretty typical freshman premed schedule. Very doable.

You can pretty much add psych to any schedule and it wont make a difference.:meanie:

Oh! Thanks for the response Jaquen. I wanted to hear from SDN to make sure.

To save making another topic with the same question, I'll be taking gen bio, gen chem (with labs), calculus, and an English course. All in all 14 hours, does this seem doable as a freshman?

Yeah, no problem.

Take gen chem before orgo...but this schedule does not seem like it is too much imo

I took that same course load but with an intro biochem course instead of the English one. I managed to have a life so you'll be fine

You know, I think you're right - I'll probably take out physio...
And I would have finished gen chem by winter, and I want to take the DAT next summer so I need the ochem 😛

Are you skipping out on Gen Chem using AP's? I would highly recommend taking Gen Chem before orgo even if you've completed AP chemistry.

Edit: just read your post. Just don't overdo freshman year too much. Plenty of time to take difficult classes later on
