I will start college this september at a local comm. college. I have registered for my schedule and here it is:
Monday: Chem101 (12-1.45 pm)
Tue: Eng 101 (8.30 am-11.15 am) MATH 151 (1.30 pm- 3.15 pm)
Wednesday: Chem 101 12-1.45 pm)
Thursday: Chem LAB 8.30 am--11.30 am
Friday: History 105 (11-1.45pm)

The only thing I don't like about this schedule is that I have a class every single day. But as you can see I only have maximum of two classes per day(I am taking 5 different classes). I have to work every monday, wednesday, friday, and saturday at 3.00 -7 PM always so I try to make my self available before that time. Do you think it is better to cram in more than 2 classes per day and instead have 1-2 days off?
or do you think my current schedule is good ? WIll I have enough time to study and spend time with my fam and friends?

I will be taking 2 labs next semester (bio & chem) which I know will be ALOT OF FUN...

You can do that schedule and pull out straight A's with your eyes closed.

Agreed. If they were all upper division classes then it may be a different story.
This.

I'm currently taking organic II M-F 9am-12pm, organic II lab MTTH 4-8pm, and a 300+ humanities class (online) along with appeasing the old lady and working 25hrs a week. I'll gladly trade you. Avoid summer classes if you can...

I would focus on doing 15-17credits so I would add BIO... you'd need it to take Orgo and A&P for your second year.

Also, grades are the most important thing so lessen the hours you're working or work on the weekends if it interferes with school.

Organic II is easy. Spectroscopy is simple, and most of the chemistry involves jamming something into a carbonyl. And any humanities class (much less one online) is pure B.S. You'll be fine. If you're worth your salt as a potential pharmacy student, pre-reqs are not that hard.

I'm not implying that orgo II is hard. I'm saying that doing a semester of orgo II in a month with labs, another class, and working part time is hard. I'm only home to sleep, otherwise I've been at the library as we're covering 5 chapters a week or so.

Oh, you meant over the summer you were taking. Well, okay, so you're doing something easy as an accelerated pace. Little more challenging, but still not too bad. 19 credits a semester...ouch.

Besides, if the sole reason you're working is to please the old lady, something tells me it's a blessing in disguise that you're only home to sleep. :meanie:

Here we go with the "Oh that class was easy for me. I'm an internet hero with all sorts of clout" bs.

Nah. If I was an internet hero or had clout, I'd be out making some of that sweet internet money. But it's true. If you struggle with pre-reqs, it's a bad omen for your future as a pharmacy student.

agreed;

there's a reason why organics was considered a "weed out" course, its because its difficult.

and asking someone how difficult a class is (atleast on this forum) , is stupid. asked a guy about molecular bio, and he'll said " no problem bro, its easy". He got a b/C. Ask another about it and he'll tell you its tough, but they got an A. how east/difficult something is is all relative.

Just stay around 15-18 units a semester/quarter and you'll be fine, and try not to stack more than 3 science classes together in a quarter (don't take less than that your first 2 years), unless all your are taking that quarter is 4 science classes. Sometimes u may have to take 20+ units, but thats life, try to keep it to a minimum though unless you want life to start getting difficult.

not at all...schedule is pretty easy going...I will say this though, you are probably going to pretty tired on a lot of those days after you finish work, so please just do what you can to review for at least a couple of hours a day. If you can do this and stay on top of practice problems and homework, you'll be fine. It's extremely important for you to not slack and learn this stuff right from now instead of struggling with it later. You are building the foundation for the rest of your collegiate career. Of course grades are important as well, way more than work, so if it gets to be too much, don't be scared to cut back your hours.

That's a good point. Sleep will be your friend this semester, get some whenever you get the opportunity. Also, watch your diet over the semester; with a schedule like that it's hard to find time to exercise and it's also very easy to go with fast food for sustenance, which is a great way to tack on pounds.

Here at SDN, in addition to pharmacy school help, we double as life coaches.

In fights with your significant other, be sure not to raise your voice. Stay calm and collected as this has been proven to be more constructive in the heat of the moment.

That's right.

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience…I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked….You're not as fat as you imagine.

Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don't be reckless with other people's hearts, don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don't waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind…the race is long, and in the end, it's only with yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life…the most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds know still don't.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone.

Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't, maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't, maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…what ever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your choices are half chance, so are everybody else's. Enjoy your body, use it every way you can…don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it's the greatest instrument you'll ever own..

Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you never know when they'll be gone for good.

Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography in lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.

Don't mess too much with your hair, or by the time it's 40, it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen...

Baz Luhrman obviously never lived in Stockton, or visited it for that matter.

Northern California make you soft? PSHHHHH.

YEAH THAT'S RIGHT, A CALIFORNIA DERAILMENT AGAIN.

Holy crap!

I regularly do crossfit.com but I'm forgoing working out all month 🙁

It all comes down to what kind of teachers you have really, even though they are low level courses, but if those teachers are bitches and fags, don't count on an easy semester. Make sure you know who you'll be having and look them up @ ratemyprofessors.com, the site is not entirely accurate, but it will give you a good general understanding of your prof.

Good luck!

Did you just say "meow"?

Do I LOOK like a CAT to you!?

Best. Movie. Ever.

I haven't seen many comedies, or really any movies, in a long time... but man that one was a classic and one I'd see again if it came out on the silver screen again.

Most college students go to class every day. Many of them take more than one class on the same day, too. And 16 hours of work per week is super easy. Let's put it this way: if you can't handle this schedule, you won't be able to handle pharmacy school. You won't even be able to handle applying for pharmacy school. Aside from Tuesday, where you have two classes back-to-back, you have huge chunks of your day available to you, not to mention every single evening and all weekend.

Oh, I forgot - you work four four-hour shifts each week. That's sure to cut hard into your party time. I can't believe you're seriously asking this! You don't think you'll have time for friends and family after 7 each day? And I didn't even mention that this is community college...

Is organic 1, microbiology, physics, and anatomy 2 to much in one semester?

Is organic 1, microbiology, physics, and anatomy 2 to much in one semester?

That could be rough. Organic and physics are hard for many people, and anatomy and micro both require a LOT of memorization.

If I were you, I'd switch out either organic or physics for a non-science class, just to mix it up. But if you have a lot of time to study and you're an excellent student, you could pull it out.

Is organic 1, microbiology, physics, and anatomy 2 to much in one semester?
It depends on how well you can manage time and if you have other stuff - work, volunteering, late-night drinking parties - going on. Personally, I would drop one of those and pick up a humanities class or two.

I am going to be a junior. I am applying to Maryland for fall 2010. So organic 1 and physics are required for me to finish up in time. If I dropped microbiology and substituted with statistics would that be better? Problem is I only have orgo 1 and 2, physics 1 and 2, anatomy 2, microbiology, and statistics left to take. No really easy humanties :/.

Oh yeah! I'm a senior tech at Walgreens and I work like 18-20 hours a week.

And I didn't even mention that this is community college...

:laugh::laugh: True, community college practically give out A for just showing up to class.

But trust me on the sunscreen...

Anyway, to the OP: I had a schedule a lot like yours when I first started CC, except I worked Sat/Sun/Tues/Thurs from 3-10 (or whenever we got out of there - closing crew). I found it much less stressful to get 3 day a week evening classes, on the days I didn't work. But - I've also done something more similar to your schedule, and it worked out just fine.

Be sure to prioritize your time carefully, and don't forget that sleep is one of those priorities (agreeing with the other respondents above). You can do it! 😀

That's at least a valid question. I took organic 2, A&P 2, and Bio 2 in one semester while working full time (40 hours), and still got an A in each class, but it was community college. I don't know; what's the hardest semester you've had up to this point, and how hard was it for you? You can probably answer your own question if you think about it.

I got an A in Org II, and only a B+ in Org. I. Struggle to get an A in Physic I, and didn't put nearly as much effort into getting an A for Phy II. Overall, it has more to do with the teacher than the class itself IMO.

Yeah, I have about 4 classes everyday, plus I'm going to have a job. You can do it.

Folks, this is a REGULAR/AVERAGE schedule for anyone getting a BS in chemistry or biology. This schedule is not uncommon at all. I had a schedule like that all throughout undergrad b/c I graduate with a degree in chemistry. This schedule won't allow you to graduate early...however it will allow you to graduate in 4 years.

yea that could be rough...I am in my final year of doing pre-reqs. This semester i am doing organic 1, micro, a kine course and my last history course....I am also gonna try and do the PCAT in October with my limited knowledge but hopefully I will do good enough.😀
