Hello Everyone,

After studying really hard for my NBDE part 2 and passing the exam..I am beginning to think..how important is part 2 in the application process? I mean for schools which require NBDE part 1 as their admission criteria..does passing NBDE part 2 benefit at all? Your views on this will be highly appreciated!!

NDBE 2 it's the best thing that you can do if you wanna to increase your chances to get in dental school, all those school asking for "part 1 only", will give you preference over other applicants of course you need to have a complete package" decent gpa, letters of recommendations, working experience in USA". GOOD LUCK!!!!!

IMHO, now that the NBDE is PASS/FAIL format , I do not think having part II counts THAT much... But I still think it is a good thing to have because:

1) opens more options of schools.. Some of the schools (just a few of them) require it
2) Once you are already in the program, it will save you a LOT of time. Trust me. I was in the midst of finishing all my requirements, so busy having to do lab work+ study for finals and worrying about graduating... Adding all that too studying for PART II was quite stressful! I was pretty jealous of my fellow classmates who had taken it before they started their international program... On the other hand, it had been so long since I had finished dental school that going through the program and learning things all over again sort of worked as a big refreshment course and it was much easier to study for part II after all that...

Since nbde is pass/fail now having passed part2 would not set you apart from rest of the candidates, because most of them are doing it. Now the only thing that can differentiate you from others is your work experience and if invited to interview, your performance at interview combined with the whole profile will get you in. You will realize this once you start facing interviews, because there you would know what profiles others have.
Hope this helps.
