Sorry if this has been asked before ---

I am trying to schedule Step 2 CS and was wondering if taking it in November is pretty late - I know my school recommends taking the boards earlier than that. What is the turn-around time for finding out if you passed? If you don't pass, is it pretty easy to schedule another testing date? It was my impression most people passed the first time, so I don't know how big of a deal this usually is.

Thanks so much for any advice 🙂

This past year, it was recommended that, in order to have your result from the CS in time for the match, you take the exam before Dec 31st...
So I would think it would be something similar this year?

Thanks for the response! Do you know if that information was emailed to you or was on the Step 2 website? I've looked through the website but can't find any information...

I'd like to find out for sure since I called and they said it takes 8 weeks for results. When do residencies make their match lists? I guess it needs to be at least eight weeks before that...

Thanks so much 🙂

CS results took 2-3 months this past year, but things will probably be more efficient next year. I cannot imagine programs waiting for CS results to make their ROL's though, since pretty much everyone passes. The exception would be IMG's who need ECFMG certification.

It's on the website... can't remember where... in the CS news i believe...

this year Match lists were on Jan 23rd I think...

It depends on your school's requirements for when you need to take it by. FMGs need to have their results prior to the match/ROL submission (which was FEBRUARY 23 this year). I personally took it in mid-March, got my results in late April or early May. Residency programs don't care AT ALL about the CS test, so having passed it prior to ROL submission is not necessary or helpful in how they rank you (the exception here is FMGs, since NRMP requires them to pass CS in order to participate in the Match).
