Technology Is PDA outdated

I am trying to decide between PDA and ipod touch, or any other devices that provide internet access. I went to several stores--best buy, curcit city, none of them have a display item, and curcit city doesn't even have PDA at all. The salesperson said they used to carry that, but with smartphone getting popular, they no longer carry it in stock. Is PDA getting outdated?
