just wondering if anybody here is familiar with IS pharmacist and how much computer knowledge the position requires? Our IS pharmacist just resigned and my director asked me if i am interested in the position. The previous IS pharmacist did a lot of programming as he was a programmer before he got his pharmD. I know this position has a lot of potential, but not sure if my computer background is sufficient for the position (I know the basics). I am also quite familiar with our pharmacy system (siemens), but have no idea about programming.

Thanks a lot.

Is the job related to implementing / rolling out programs... Or just the local IT pharmacist? The former absolutely needs a strong background in database management and likely access or Sql type of programming. The latter can be someone with an inqusitive mind that likes to tinker. It is composed mostly of On the job training and problem solving. At least, this is what I have perceived...

Thanks for the info. this position is definitely involved in a lot of implementing. we just rolled out cpoe 6 months ago and more programs are coming.
