The average sci gpa's for predents.com is about 3.5-3.6. Is this accurate or is it just based on whoever has an account on the website? How skewed is the website when it comes to other stats?

it only represents a small proportion of the applicant pool. Since it is a voluntary listing, the people who share their stats tend to be the ones that are above average.
The best way to look at accurate stats is to visit school websites in which they will have posted the last year's entering class average.... or call them up.

You can also buy the Official Guide to Dental Schools on the ADEA website. It's very helpful, specially when you are trying to decide what schools to apply to!👍

When you are talking about the GPA, are you talking about the one that is listed with other stats for the school (tuition, seats, residence, etc)? If you are, then the numbers ARE accurate. However, if you took an average of those user reported GPA's, you would probably get an average that's a bit higher. I am not sure 'how' skewed the website is, but it's safe to say that the reported numbers are higher than the actual averages for most schools.

given the fact that in 2009 there were 12k app's
Also assuming that this number increases very little. but remains <13k

We can say pre-dents is <10% of the total application pool.

So the q? is can you rely on ~10%

Some people do and some do not. Some people compare their stats with some of the applicants that got in to see what kind of an applicant that the schools usually like...
Very useful tool to see other people stats who got in but not very useful tool to judge yourself based on it b/c the data sample is very small and there are also some fake accounts to boost certain schools stats to discourage people from applying to those schools.
go to the website to see the stats for schools.

Yes, it's very much skewed. If you look at the DAT scores of those attending a particular dental school on predents, you'll see they're higher (most of the time) than the scores posted on the school website. One example: predents has the average AA and TS score for UNC in 2009 as a 23 and 23 (of six individuals who posted), respectively. However, the school's official websitre listed that the 2009 1st year class had averages of 19 and 19 for those sections. In addition, you may have to question the integrity of the scores that people post on predents. For other schools, there may be less discrepancy b/w predents and the school's official averages.

Like someone said, the stats listed for the school are accurate but everything else is skewed. The best way to use predents in my opinion is to try to find candidates who have applied who have very similar GPAs/DAT scores to you and see where these people are getting in.

If you use it in this way it wont be skewed, but there are still people who don't update their account once they get accepted, so keep in mind that people could have gotten into more schools than their account shows
