Im trying to apply for research this upcoming summer, but I have no research experience, so I really dont know what to talk about as a strength in my personal statment. Also, do you have to write about an area of interest or is it ok not to say that you dont know what you want to go into ?

These programs are meant for people like you. Research would certainly help, but lack of research experience isn't necessarily a deal-breaker. The rest of your application needs to be strong, though.

As far as areas of interest, think of something that interests you from your courses. If you haven't done research, then obviously you're not going to have an idea about something specific. Give as much information as possible - this is probably just for matching you up with a mentor that does work in a field that's personally interesting for you.
