Is taking MCAT in late June too much of a stretch if I want to apply this cycle?

I know it's best to take the MCAT when ready and not rush it. I got a 505 and a 497. I'd like to apply on June 5th, but was wondering if it's okay to take the MCAT in late June?

I've read on some threads here that it's better late than with a low score. What's the upshot ultimately?

No it's not. Just have your application in at one school after you take your exam so that it starts getting verified. Then get to work prewriting your secondaries. Once you get your score back, add the other schools according to how you did, and get to work. You could still reasonably get everything done by the beginning or middle of August.

If you already have a 497 and a 505, you better make darn sure you are scoring well over 510 before you take it. Otherwise a third MCAT score of 505 (or even 506-507) will do nothing for you.

I know. I spoke to the medical interview person at my school, and he told me that I should get a 512+ on this try, otherwise it won't be helpful. So, that's why I want to take as much time as I need this time, instead of rushing it. Parental pressure doesn't help though lmao...they want me to take it ASAP, oh well hahahaha c'est la vie!!

I took the MCAT on June 29th last year and had no issues with the rest of the cycle. Best of luck with everything!

Make sure to take full-length practice tests under simulated real conditions. and do not take test unless you are getting 512 or higher. Explain to your parents that a 497 and 505 and a third score in that same range make MD application difficult, unless you have significant mitigating or compensatory factors, such as URIM/economically disadvantaged/very outstanding non-traditional applicant, etc. It is actually worse to take it a third time and get a 507 than to leave your score as is.

At this point, you might better spend your time taking another year and if you truly love medicine, you will find medicine-related jobs and other experiences that you will enjoy and will make you a much stronger candidate AND you can keep studying for MCATS later into this summer if need be. I do think that lower stats students should have their applications ready to go as early as possible in an MD application season and their applications should be carefully written and reviewed and written again. Time to tell the parents that this is your life and you are now an adult who has to live with your own choices. (Until you bring them their checkbook to write your tuition checks!)
