I've graduated and taken all the pre-reqs during my undergrad. I have a 3.47 cGPA and a 3.3 sGPA. I'm thinking about going back to school and taking a few more upper level science classes to boost my GPA. Is this a good idea? Is it worth the cost of tuition? Any advice is greatly appreciated 🙂

Is taking more classes and raising your GPA a good thing? Yeah...I mean that should go without saying.

Is it worth the cost? That depends. Are you pairing those GPA's with a 36-37 mcat...or with a 30-31 mcat? I'm sure you could take these classes at a CC for next to nothing if money is an issue.

currently my mcat is a 28 and I'm gonna retake it in a few weeks. They don't have upper level science classes at a CC. However, I can take microbiology and human anatomy and physiology at CC. Won't it be looked down upon going back to a CC after graduating?

Definitely take more classes. Some may look down while some may not. Decide if not having to worry about this is worth the four figure price difference between CC and 4 year.

Unless you have a great upward trend, a good enough reason for why it is so low, and a STRONG mcat to back it up, your best bet is doing a post-bac. In your case, you will likely need a post-bac and a new mcat unless you are URM or shooting for most DO.

I'm not an URM. You're right I should do a post-bac. You think it's a safe bet doing it at a CC?

Would most low-tier schools care about the post-bac classes being taken at a CC?

Sorry I'll have to defer to someone with more knowledge on that one, might want to check one of the adcomm question threads, I would guess someone has asked it at some point.

They might. One of my interviewers commented on it (did most of my postbacc at a 4year, then took a handful of extra classes due to time/money). Even if the adcom overall doesn't, a particular individual might.

I see. I would just feel dumb spending $10,000 on tuition that wouldn't be going towards a degree at a 4 year university.
