Hi all:

I was planning on taking the DAT for the first time in Mid-July. However, after learning that it takes quite some time for scores to be submitted to schools, and that the application can't be reviewed until DAT scores are in (still unclear if this is true or not), should I step up my studying and take it earlier (thinking late June)?

I plan on having my application submitted by June 1st, but is it true that is essentially meaningless without an accompanying DAT score?

Thanks for all the help, I'm new to all this.

I believe it is somewhat meaningless, but prob not entirely. Also, mid july is not late, but try not to have it later if you want to get it in early. GL

Meaningless?

I would say it is not meaningless... The reason being that it takes time for your application to process and there are still secondary applications that need to be filled out. I received several secondary applications before my DAT was complete which made it nice. I turned in my application the first week of june...However, if you feel like you need to work on an aspect of your application a little more then do so, do not rush it to the point of having sloppy work. 👍

Few years ago I called some schools about this. They all told me the same thing. Applications that are incomplete (no DAT score or no complete LORs) don't get reviewed. You can submit them early June all you want, and they will get sent out to schools, but they don't get reviewed until their status changes to "complete"

That was 2 years ago... call up a few schools and see if its any different.

Welcome back philip

i called a couple of schools a couple of days ago and they said the same thing. However because they now implement the new DENTPIN, it will take approximately 2 to 3 weeks after your DAT test date to post on your AADSAS and sent out. They told me that the latest I should be taking my DAT for early acceptances before December would be early August. Hope it helps!

Now, I'm not entirely sure of how it is for people who have taken the DATs and have yet to apply. It's not quite clear

Thanks for all the help. I think I'll be fine taking it around July 13th or so... my GPA is pretty good, so I would rather take the time on the DAT to get it done right and then I can hopefully get some acceptances.

I just started working through all the DAT stuff yesterday, it certainly is overwhelming at first! I just plan on doing six hours a day or so over the next two months. I'm using these study materials right now, and planning on buying Crack DAT PAT soon. Am I missing anything major?

Kaplan Blue Book
Cliffs AP Bio
Cliffs DAT (not good for much)
DAT Destroyer
Math Destroyer (Is it just me, or are the all the questions in these two books supposed to be very difficult)?

Thanks again.

Philippines03j, how did you receive the secondaries before you completed your DAT? Did you have a DAT score already and you were planning to take it for the second time?
Since the schools don't view your application until the DAT score is arrived, which as others pointed out, is about 2 wks after you take the DAT, it's surprising that they sent secondaries to you if there were no DAT scores with your AADSAS.

well alot of 2ndary applications are automated by the school's system when the electronic (AADSAS) application is received. However, if your application is not complete (no DAT or no LORs or no 2ndary ~ if required) then nothing gets reviewed.

if the app is submitted first, then a DAT is sent later (since I will take my DAT after my app is submitted) how are the two matched? is an updated total file provided or how goes it work>?

I am not exactly sure how AADSAS runs.

But I think.... Like for the first time, they will send your app without the DAT score... After AADSAS recieves your scores, they will resend the same app (but this time with DAT scores populated)

They just sent them to me😀

Seriously though, It seemed that over half the schools I applied to (only applied to 10) sent me secondaries before I took the DAT...Only took it once in late august.

After the secondary the waited to get my DAT scores to say anything official (interview, rejection, etc).

One school gave me an interview a day or two after my DAT. I faxed them the scores the same day (some schools find faxing acceptable others do not.).

Anybody selling Organic Chemistry Odyssey 2010 or 2011 or any edition? please send me a private email.
thanks.

Will July 25th be fine to take the DAT? My app is expected to be submitted the first week of June.

i checked with a LOT of schools and they have told me that as long as you take it within the month of august you are still eligible for dec 1st acceptances. i think the important thing is to focus on your DAT and take it when your ready rather than worrying about the dates.

I turned in my app June 20th or so. It was sent the first mailing of apps on June 26th. I took my DAT on July 8th. I still got in Dec 1st. I would shoot for late june or early july
