I've heard conflicting information about this, so here goes: is the DAT an adaptive exam?

Adaptive:
You get only one question at a time,
Once you've answered, you can never go back to change your answer,
The next question's difficulty is determined by how you answered,
The first questions given to you count the most toward your score.
The GRE is like this (and it SUX!!).

Not Adaptive:
You can go back and forth marking answers at your discretion or skipping questions/sections to come back later,
You can leave the most difficult for last if you want,
You'd get the same group of questions regardless of how you answer them.
I was hoping the DAT was like this, but I heard from a Kaplan rep the other day that it wasn't, so I wanted to check with you guys, esp. those who just took the test this past year (hoping you're still checking out this forum).

When responding, please remember to say when you took the exam.

Thanks y'all!

The DAT is NOT adaptive. You get the same questions no matter what. You can see all of the questions for each section at once and skip questions and go back to questions, etc. I took the DAT in August 2003 and January 2004.

Thanks, dprice! That's an ENORMOUS relief (and another piece of evidence that some Kaplan reps have no idea what they're talking about). 😀

Ah...brings back memories of the GMAT (adaptive test). You better do good on the first ten questions otherwise your score would be Fuc*ed

DAT...man you can go back and forth all you want and the questions do not get harder as you answer them

Get the Scholarware Top Score Pro software it is pretty much an exact replica of the format of the real DAT. You can practice strategies like marking questions so you can go back and just get an accurate feel for the computer format the DAT uses. It looks and feels just like the real DAT.

I'm talking only format though, the diffculty of tests is actually quite different from the real DAT.

How so? Please reply if you don't mind? I would really like to know b/c I'm taking it (the real DAT) this saturday? Is it harder or easier or the same difficulty level...?

Thanks.

^^^ Science on Top Score is harder and if you know your material you can expect a couple points more on the real DAT. PAT on Top Score was quite a bit easier than the real PAT. The only PAT that is accurate as far as I know is the PAT practice in the DAT registration booklet.

What Kaplan Reps told you that? I teach at Kaplan and as far as I know the only people qualified to teach it have taken it themselves and know how the test is structured.

I won't primerz, I even highlighted the crap out of it like I'm supposed to. I have O Chem 1 on Monday

Some Kaplan rep that came to speak to the Pre-Dental student group at my school. I doubt the rep had any experience with the test, and I don't think they were a teacher for the course.

Umm, and what's a TEL again??

Tangled Elephant Lozenges?
Totally Evangelical Lunatics?
Transcendental Evanescent Lethargy?
