Is the math on the DAT really that difficult?

It seems like I am seeing very low scores this year for the math section of the DAT. Is it really that difficult, or is there something else going on here?😕

there are a few suprising questions..

Somethig you know how to solve, but can't get the answer without calculator or that forgotten formula. That's my story, though!

I don't know how you will do during QR.

I agree that you should solve fast!

Speed is essential for DAT!

It's the last section! You will be dehydrated, too!

It's pretty simple. Think SAT math, just with a little less time and a lot more pressure.

Disagree, I got a 750 in math and sh*tty on QR. The time constraint is what gets you, the math is harder. A lot of probability and trig (not found on SAT MATH)

Hmm, I got a 29 on the ACT math. Never did take the SAT, but SAT and ACT math are probably very similar. Is there any calculus involved?

They are completely different. I got a 30 on ACT math but ended up with a 19 on the real thing.

Math was easy. Everyone was complaining about the word problems, but they were like 2 sentences each. What really killed me was the timing for sure. If they gave everyone another 15mins it would have been okay.

Wao~! you so lucky. what I experienced the math was not like 2 sentence, it is more 4 to 5 lines of long complicated calculations. I got 19 on QR.

There is a lot of math but it is pretty simple. I got a 780 in the SAT and a 29 on the DAT. Actually it was pretty cool, in the breakdown of the DAT from 05 when I took it there was one white male in the country that got a 29, and that was me. Of course there were a few 30's. I thought it was cool that I could point out my score on the total breakdown of people that took the test.

Thats admirable dude...I tried to F with the test thinking that the time would pause when the previous section stated. "TIME IS UP!", so I somewhat took my time going to the bathroom. Did the sign out/in, and I go back to see my clock down to 41:00 mins. I flipped out, and it's not that I couldn't do the math, it's just realizing the time wasted and the pressure was on. That was the only part of the test I had a high heart rate, sucked because I am real good at math. It is what it is 😡

First of all, just because you did well on your SAT Math does not mean you will do well on DAT math. I'm just saying the questions are very comparable. Considering it's been 3-4 years since you (or most likely anyone on this forum) has had to worry about mental math, skills deteriorate. Also to clarify, there was probability and trig in the SAT II math so besides being a little more pressed for time, DAT math is very similar to SAT math.

I found the more difficult questions were towards the beginning of the section.

I skipped 5 or so which weren't necessarily hard, but would take up the most time. I came back to those and guessed as time ran out. I think skipping those let me get through all the rest.

To answer the OP's question, the math is close to that on the SAT, but with trig and prob. Much less time though.

I got a 780 on the SAT math and a d 33 on the ACT math, and i found the math on the DAT (I haven't taken the real thing yet) to be a lot more like the SAT math then it did the ACT math. Revisit your formulas and grab an old math book and start one chapter review a day, you will get MUCH faster with time. IT WONT HAPPEN OVERNIGHT, you don't suddenly get fast with processing the information and actually applying the calculations, you have to practice. math is not a spectator sport - David Kerr
