is the may 15 (only hold 1 acceptance after this date) deadline still true?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Don't know how serious it is but when I got accepted I got an official looking bit paper with the heading "For the 2002 Entering Class: AAMC Recommendations Concerning Medical School Acceptance Procedures for First Year Entering Students" Rule number five says "By May 15 of the year of matriculation, an applicant who has received offers of admission from more than one school should choose the one school that he or she prefers and withdraw from all other schools to which he or she has been accepted."

Hi Oldman and Nerfornothin,

I don't know if the May 15 deadline still holds because of the AMCAS delays, but I do know that admissions committees take the deadlines very seriously.

I have not heard anything differently and in fact, at an interview in November, the dean reaffirmed the May 15th deadline.

Unless we get an e-mail notification from AMCAS, it would be best to adhere to the deadline. 🙂

But what if you are waiting to receive financial aid packages so you can choose which school you want to attend??

I heard that they are usually good with sending the financial aid packages at least a week before the deadline, given that you did your financial aid forms in a timely fashion.

I understand that adcoms are actually allowed the info to find out if a student is holding spots at mroe than 1 school after May 15, and can contact the other school(s) and the student. If this is true, than I guess a school could choose to enforce the rule, and I imagine it just depends on the school. If you are waiting on financial aid info, I'm sure the schools would be willing to work with you if you explain the situation. I've found that adcoms become much more accomodating after they've accepted you. 🙂

once of the schools i was accepted to (MCW) told me they are not sending out financial aid packages until june!

the financial aid staffmember told me it would be all loans though.

I'm hoping thats the case JohnM and Daredevil. That's my only deciding factor right now: cost - since both schools are more orless roughly the same in terms of curriculum/rank/etc.

Goodness - I hope I don't have to wait until June! By the way - schools can make changes to our FAFSA electronically - one school did that for me and my EFC went up. They made a complete mistake and changed it after I went in and spoke to the fin. aid officer.

Hey I was wondering...is the May 15th date the day they have to recieve your withdrawal or the postmark date?

I'll be really curious to see how this shapes up at some schools like CMS/Finch. At my interview there yesterday, they said they'd be interviewing through JUNE.
