I was wondering: is there a book like Pocket Medicine (MGH) for Psychiatry? Or what essential books would you suggest for a psychiatry intern (not including medicine books)?

Kaplan and saddock have a great handbook out. I took it it to staples and had it spiral bound. its really all you need!!😀

Current Clinical Strategies publishes little pocket books, one focused on DSM and the other focused on psych meds. Pretty much all you need. A more comprehensive psych med pocket reference, though heavier, would be the Handbook of Psychiatric Drug Therapy (Arana & Rosenbaum) although it's kind of old -- I think the last edition was 2000.

Most recent 5th edition, '05. Great white coat book for pharmacotherapy, my fav.

Also, a spiral bound desk reference of the DSM criteria is very hand and portable for things like, "what are the 9 criteria for borderline PD or the criteria for PTSD," as well as the DSM codes, especially on emergency psych.
