When I submitted my application early August/late July, I listed a publication of mine as in-press. As far as I know, this is the same thing as accepted. At the time, I did not have a PubMed ID available.

Recently, I found out that my paper will officially be published in December and there is already a version online "ahead of print" with an associated PubMed ID.

Is "In-press" and official publication with a PubMed ID distinctly different? I am in the process of updating some of my schools for various other activities and was considering including this as well. Thoughts?

Being able to provide a PMID# makes it much easier for a curious adcomm to take a look. I would include it in your update letter.

It's the same, as long as you have a PMID.
