So...I have a sweating problem...not from my armpits, but from my...buttcrack. I'm sorry, I know this is nasty, but I need some help. Its especially bad if I'm hot, excited, or nervous...the latter of which I assume I'm going to experience quite often next year on the wards.

Its not TOO big of an issue when I'm wearing jeans, but whenever I wear khakis or beige slacks, the sweat-stain becomes very obvious. Not only that, but I actually sometimes leave a moist area on chairs (disgusting, i know). I currently use extra-strength gold bond, but it only helps for a short while. I know there are botox treatments for this kind of problem, but I don't have the $$ for such temporary fixes....

Any advice? Other than wearing black pants?

i can't tell if it's a joke or not

your buttcrack just gets sweaty. is it visible?

Probably stereotyping here but you should seriously look into weight loss. Failing that, gauze or if it's really bad, tape down a maxipad.

I only know this because I had a pilonidal cyst when I was a kid and the amount of fluid that came out of that thing (before I sought medical help) was incredible. Might want to check that's not the case either.

You should look into getting a script for drysol. It's the prescription strength deodorant but it's in an alcohol base and far more effective then the so called otc prescription strength do's (just have same conc of alum tetr). It's not just for armpits but for sweaty hands, etc. For serious cases of hyperhydrosis can apply it and then wrap area with saran wrap over night (your case might be particularly difficult).

I'd just stop by the student health center and grab a script.

You could also sport a low profile diaper.

Its not a joke. Yes, its visible. I'm not overweight, at all. In fact, and I don't mean to brag, I'm actually quite fit.

Maybe I'll give this "drysol" a try. Any other serious ideas?

I've been told differently by physicians I've seen prescribe it. I've been told Drysol is for axillary use only, but perhaps that has changed recently. It also has a much greater concentration of aluminum than OTC antiperspirants. It's also very irritating, so wrapping it in saran wrap would be a terrible idea.

I know it may sound crazy, but physicians can inject botox to reduce severe sweating. I know they at least do it for armpit sweat. There are two types of sweat glands and armpit and perianal sweat glands are the same.

Are you sweating way down there or is it just the lower back? This may or may not limit your ability to use botox. I think plastic surgeons typically do this treatment. I'd give one a call and inquire if I were you.

this strikes me as borderline for seeking medical advice... probably because my answer is to seek medical advice. you need to see your doctor about this, or set up an appt with a dermatologist. derms handle most hyperhydrosis problems... drysol, glycopyrrolate, botox, and electrolysis are common options. i doubt anything non-rx is going to help much.

I'm way to embarrassed to see any doc about this...

1) obtain speedstick
2)apply speedstick to your crack
3)????
4) PROFIT

doctors see way worse. and you're going to become a doctor in a few years. so you know this better than anyone else: would you laugh at someone with such a compromising problem? no. you would commiserate with the patient and try to find a feasibly solution. go seek medical advice and stop this needless suffering!

It can be used for sure on other parts of the body, and the package insert recommends the saran wrap under certain conditions. (although as I recall there are restrictions..)

i guarantee any derm has seen hyperhydrosis before. whats more embarrassing? sweat stains on your pants or talking with someone who has taken an oath of confidentiality.

yea, ur right. So, is there a more technical term for the area other than "buttcrack"? lol Seriously, though...

Here's a serious answer: glycopyrrolate, 1-4 mg. I've used it for hyperhidrosis for years. Headaches are the main side effect.

i think you should just experiment with padding. applying stuff down there is not the first thing i would try if i were you especially after seeing butt abscesses and such (keep those pores open since you already have a propensity to overproduce secretions).

i wouldnt try botox if i were u and risk anal incontinence and again, infection, plus how long does that last and who is willing to do it?

Don't believe shaving/waxing would help. In fact, might make it worse.

Use pads. Guy pants are so loose that no one will be able to tell you're wearing them (you can't even tell with most tight girl pants). Get them at a store that has self check-out. Pick a brand that says "long" (will cover the butt area) and has wings (will stay in place better). They are cheap, will solve your problem, don't require a prescription, and no one will ever know. 🙂

i think seeing student health or derm or something is the best bet... i know it may be embarrasing but it will so be worth it when you can get a fix! there is no way that you are alone suffering from this and you could be dealing with something way worse.

see a doc 🙂 they will help 🙂 doctors are our friends 🙂

Although I don't know if it will apply to your circumstances, my roommate used to sweat astronomical amounts from his armpits and was never able to find a product that worked until he found Certain Dri. Again, I don't know if it will work for your described predicament, but it stops sweating and might be a better solution than botox, pads, diapers, etc.

You should definitely talk to a doc. They won't laugh at you, they've seen waaaay worse (try necrotizing fasciitis of the penis for example) and and they can't tell anyone.

Good luck!

do you think "certain dri" could really cause abscesses or something? I was in the store today and was about to buy it but I thought back to this post and chickened out...

I'm no derm. But I think the skin around that area tend to be thinner. That means increased absorption of topicals. And I'm not sure if you want to absorb all the chemicals in certain dri. Why no see doctor? 😕

Botox treats this in armpits, I'm sure something can be done.

Well, I just got back from the dermatologist. She told me to try using OTC unscented antiperspirant since anything prescription strength (or even Certain-Dri) would be way too irritating and botox down there is not an option. Woop tee doo. 👎

Certainly not worth the $30 copay.

uch, doctors are useless, they dont know anything.

Did they at least give you an rx for oxy? :xf:
