taking orgo. in freshman year is better than taking orgo. in sophomore year?

OR just take any time but good grade?

In case of high school, taking AP biology in 10th seems better than in 12th....
For dental admission, would it be the matter when I take courses?

To summarize,

Dental admission officers will think taking orgo. in fresh. is something like ....really good and challeging.....comparing to one student who took orgo. in his sophomore year? OR just take fresh. or sophomore what ever you want, but only good letter grade would be matter?

Most people cannot take it till later because you have to take General Chem before Orgo. That means you can't take it till sophomore year. At least that was at my school.

Dental schools aren't going to care when you take it. They just care that you took all the courses and got good grades. Honestly it might actually be a bad idea to take orgo so early. It won't be as fresh for the DAT when you take it (probably not until after your junior year)

I think that's asking for trouble. Freshman have to adjust to college life and then deal with orgo. That's a recipe for lackluster performance. Also dental schools really like to see that you take general chemistry in college. In short haste makes waste. Why bother rushing you have all 4 years to go in college.
I read from my alma mater that generally a freshman taking orgo score below average in the tests.

You may be able to take organic as a freshman provided you pick up gen chem during the summer preceding your freshman year. It is unlikely that you will be allowed to take organic without the g chem pre requisite. And yes it will be a feather in your cap if you are also able to come out some decent grades. Throw physics and biochem into the mix and you will be able to apply to DS after completing one year of college.

Why bother rushing it? Dental schools generally prefer that people finish up their undergrads. I have yet to hear of people getting admitted without finishing up their undergrad degree.

The advantage is you don't have to take it sophomore year.

Just because you have not heard it does not mean it does not happen. Maybe these overachievers are not particularly interested in tooting their own horn, at least not on SDN. Nationally 0.25% (11) of enrollees have finished 2 years of college and 4.92% (213) have finished 3 years. http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=424914

Which is very insignificant? Are you going to advice people to take a course of action that such a minor part of the predents end up taking?

unless you get your gchem course and labs done i don't see how you would be able to take ochem freshman year. Plus it doens't matter when you take it, as long as you take it and pass successfully.

I passed the AP Chem test with a 5 and that counted as the full 3-quarter sequence of GChem, so its not hard for me to believe you could take ochem as a freshman. I called around to some d-schools before enrolling at undergrad and a couple recommended/required that I retake it.

I think it would be a good idea to wait until soph year for all the reasons above. plus you'll have friends in the class 😛

UNLESS you are hard set on applying to d-school early (before a degree) and think
you want to get it out of the way

The post had more to do with the mechanics of taking organic early and less to do with whether it was advisable to pursue the course of action.

Why not take Gen Chem again in college to simply boost your GPA. I mean you should be able to get A's in all of the classes since you already have a firm background, and then you actually show that you can do the coursework at a college level. And as was stated earlier.... you might get rusty if you take O Chem your freshman year..... So long story short retake G-Chem it can't really hurt you and I would say it can only help

My advise would be to take as many pre-reqs as fast as you can if you know you can handle it. Take me for example, Im applying after my sophmore year, Ill will finish my 3rd year with all pre-reqs + 3 upper level science classes, but ill be taking lots of classes on summer which is no fun, but in the end it pays off.
Why go to undergrad for 4 years when u can finish your pre-reqs in 3 and save you a lot of money and time?
