Is there any advantage to being in the Honors program during undergrad?

I mean, do you think that it will make you a more desirable candidate when applying to dent?

Yes by taking honor level science courses, seminars, and research/teaching. I was asked about my honors program at couple of my interviews.

Oh really? Did you go into the honors program straight from high school?

I was not even in University Honors, I completed college honors. I got invited to join it and completed the requirements by graduation time. The requirement for my program was that I had to take certain credit hours of 300-400 level Honors science courses and conduct research in lab or teach as a TA and present my findings at a research symposium. I got college credit for the research as well! Then in the AADSAS application, I added College honors as one of my activities and on the transcript the honors courses have a H next to the course number. I need recognition for my hard work yo! haha

i was an honour student in my 4 years of undergrad but i really dont think it helps of hurt you in anyway. as long as you do well in your class and the dat. good rec and shadow hours. make your personal statement outstanding and you're set regardless of been an honours student or not. i got in but i don't think it makes any difference if you're an honour student or not.

If you are at a state school without an outstanding academic record, I'd say take advantage of honors to boost your credibility. From my experience, the honors program is actually helpful grade-wise. A lot of times, honors courses will curve to a B+ because they assume everyone in the class is smart. The material typically isn't much more difficult so you end up with some easy A's. I have not taken any major honor science classes (gen chem, o chem) because those are extremely rigorous, and the non-honors version still count towards my honors degree because they are tough enough. I did take honors intro-biology though which covered pretty much all of the DAT biology, save some physiology/anatomy stuff. Try to find out how difficult your particular program is, but if its anything like I've seen, its definitely worth it.

honros courses can be great for meeting faculty, getting research positions, etc...but if your going to get a lower grade in the class, then dont take it. GPA is more important

When you list your classes in the coursework part of AADSAS, there is something to select (like classification) and you can select "Honors" to indicate it was an honors class. If AADSAS made room for schools to see it, then I think it leads one to believe schools want to see it. It can't hurt, but, as stated before, its best to have a high GPA, so don't kill yourself by over-taking honors classes. And being a member of the Honors college is something else you can add to your resume and honors.
