Have you guys noticed a correlation between your SATs and MCATs at all? Either on the verbal sections, or overall percentile or anything?

Just curious.

There has to be because I heard a person from the UCLA testing center who has learned how to take standardized test ace the MCAT with a 36 total without ever having a science college course.

An associate dean from UTHSC-San Antonio gave a presentation at my school, and he said they have a formula that predicts what your MCAT score MIGHT be based on SAT/ACT scores. He said they also have a formula that predicts what your Step 1 board score MIGHT be based on your MCAT. He said their predictions are not always correct, but generally speaking, if you did well on the SAT, you SHOULD do well on the MCAT, and if you did well on the MCAT, you SHOULD do well on the boards.

Personally, my composite ACT score was the same as my first overall MCAT score. Percentage wise, I did pretty bad on the SAT compared to both of my MCAT scores.

1280 (800 math, 480 verbal) to 31 (10,11,10).

I remember reading a thread (long one) earlier on this topic as well... you might want to do a "search" on this forum or the MCAT one.

Wow. That's a big jump from 480 verbal to 10 verbal on the mcats. I'm impressed. 😉

yeah you can do a search and read about crazy formulas and such....

but imho....no.

if you are a good standardized test taker then you have an advantage....but i dont think you can take your sat and convert it into what you can get on the mcat. you get what you put into the mcat. you put in the effort you will get the best score you can get. no effort then you wont get as good a score.

i dont know but i didnt know too many people that were serious about the SATs and studied for them...our high school classes demanded more attn than that test...its was more of a ...oh its next sat. i better not forget.

you cant really do tht with the mcat.

1520 SAT (800V, 720M), 32 MCAT (11V, 10P, 11B, WO).

I had a director of admissions ask me what happened in college. 😳 😛

And I got that O in writing despite of my English major. 🙄

Fine. I'll post my scores too.

SAT: 1490 (800m 690v)
MCAT: 35L (10v 12p 13b L)

I really think there is a correlation between SAT and MCAT scores... especially on the verbal portion...

I'd have to disagree. I had a 800V but a 10V, what the heck! maybe b/c i blew off studying for the verbal section to concentrate on the other two.

I got 810 in SAT verbal and a -4 in MCAT verbal, what the heck?

I got 150 in SAT Math and a 16 in PS and BS, what the heck? 😀

no no no silly, that was your COMBINED score! 😛

Actually it's my Combined Score TIMES two 😉

I think the apparent correlation that people see between MCAT and SAT is really due to things like motivation to study, etc. The two tests are just very different.
