Hi all,

I applied in august and so far I got a whole bunch of rejections, zero interviews, and still waiting to hear from the following:
NYU
UMDNJ
UoP
Tufts
Boston
Temple
Columbia

GPA: 3.1
sGPA: 3.7
AA: 19
TS: 20

This is my second time applying. should i start preparing for next cycle or do i still have a chance this year?

I would really appreciate any feedback

Thanks

I am very surprised you did not get at least one interview. Your stats are pretty solid (except for your oGPA, but sGPA is arguably more important). Maybe you should retake your DAT. What were the rest of your DAT scores? Did you have any really low ones, especially in PAT or RC?

I dont know where you applied but apply to more schools. Those will probably all be rejections.

Yeah, I know it's expensive, but if you really want to get in somewhere, apply early and often. And by often, I mean a bunch of schools. I applied to 23 schools, got 3 interviews (just got a fourth today), and 3 acceptances. Your numbers look good, but how are you LOR's, PS, and EC's?

And other than Columbia, I haven't heard back from any of those schools either.

I applied to 14 schools. rejected from 7, and as i mentioned still waitng to hear from the schools i listed above. My LORs are solid. PS... got great feedback from my pre-dental advisor and a few friends who proof-read it for me. As for EC over 600 hours shadowing for diff. dentists, and held an administrative position at a hospital. I was in the managed care field for about 10 years.

Hate to break it but Tufts/BU are wrapping up the cycle. If this is your second cycle I would plan to either meet or call up the dean to your top 3 schools and ask them what exactly is going on and what to do next year if you don't get in. With such a science GPA, you should have landed at least a single invite. Retake the DAT and aim for a 21. I know it sucks to have to restudy but remember, you have a 3.7 GPA for the sciences, so the school is probably looking for you to match that with a higher AA. Never hurts to call up, best of luck my friend, i wish you acceptance.

OMG I am in exactly same boat with u. My gpa and DAT scores are same except I have lower sGPA than u. I retook DAT really late like late January of this year so I'm guessing that's one of reasons why I won't be in this year. And it seems like most schools are almost done interviewing so I'm preparing for the next cycle already. Since I am non-traditional and non-science major, I am in a process of applying to 1 year master's program and public health to boost up my GPAs. I also plan to do more volunteering at hospitals. I guess whatever makes difference, I'll do it. It will be loooooooong and grueling extra year for me, but I don't want to give up now. It cost me too much money already to get here lol

did u apply to any "safe" schools? schools that are known to accept students with lower stats than yours?

pardon the ignorance but which ones are the "safe" schools?

i notice that you have a decent sGPA... how many hours of science classes have you taken? did you do just the minimum requirements or are there a lot of upper level ones as well?

I'm a chem major and a bio minor so I took a whole bunch of upper level sciences such as Biochem, human physiology, micro, molecular bio, and a s#%t load of upper level chemistry

i applied in august

Well, you applied in August, but does it mean that everything was sent to the d schools in August as well? I meant if you just submitted your application in August, AADSAS might take a month or so to send out your application to all the d schools that you were applying to. You should actually look for the "date for revised application sent" or something like that in AADSAS. That's the approximate date the d schools actually receive your info.

Anyway, i wish you luck and know how it feels to be hanging and not receiving anything positive. Just apply very very early for the next cycle.

sorry for the bad news, but i just heard back from UoP today saying that their class is full.

Yup, hl11 is right... the difference between submitting in August vs. May is the problem... I'm very surprised you didn't submit on May 15 the second time. I'm not that surprised at your result.

Prepare for next cycle and apply to 20+. Oh, and ABSOLUTELY apply on May 15.
