I thought MSAR only showed how many Asians matriculated to the past class. Can that data be interpreted to mean something?

I have never seen anything beyond the AAMC tables. What further info could you want though? Like what other than the full dataset for apps/admits per stats bin could you be looking for?

Nothing specific. I was just wondering if there is any more data out there. Although I do have a question about the MSAR GPA and MCAT data. Should an ORM interpret this data differently? As in only apply to schools where they are above the median for both? I'm just wondering how different the data would be for each school if it was separated it by race.

It would be very different for minority/URM applicants but not all that different for ORM, because ORM is the vast majority of the class (at most places). So like being black would totally change your odds if your MCAT is far below median, but being Asian doesn't mean being at the median needs any adjusting, it means you're competitive.

I find that it's best to aim for a school if your stats are within what I call "striking distance." The median for all MD schools is 3.75 cPA and 3.7 sGPA, and ~509 MCAT. I consider someone competitive if they're > 3.5 GPA and 506+ MCAT. The higher the class of school, the more slippery the pole gets and so you need to be closer to their median. So, for a Cornell/Columbia class school and higher, one should be 3.6+ and 516. Pitt/Mayo class, lower the MCAT down to ~514.

Generally, chances will be best for people in their home state for those states that have public MD schools (CA and few others being exceptions).

ORMs do not need to be > median for med school. The numbers of URM are tiny, and so they're not going skew the curve up against an ORM

BTW, 1/3rd of all med students are of East or South Asian heritage. Even the HBCs have 10% of their classes as Asian. At my school, the numbers are more like 40%...a lot of them from CA.
