I graduated in 2012 and my undergrad at the time had a foreign language requirement that required you to take 2 semesters of a foreign language you did not take in high school. So I was basically forced to take Spanish 1 and 2, I received an A in Spanish 1 but a C in Spanish 2 due to a very strict new teacher from Spain. This year my undergrad annexed this policy and students no longer need to take any foreign language. This annoys me a little because I basically have a C on my transcript for something I really didn't need. I know it's probably a long shot but is there any way I could possibly petition this?

Probably not what you want to hear, but it's 'no'. The reasoning is this: dental schools do not care that your course was hard or that it's no longer required. To them, that is YOUR problem; all they care about is that you got a C in Spanish 2. Furthermore, if by chance you get asked during an interview why you got a C and you tell them it's because the teacher was hard and not because you didn't study enough to compensate for a hard teacher, that doesn't work in your favor as well. The situation doesn't sound fair and it probably isn't, but that's life. Worse things could have happened.

Quite honestly, if your transcript shows strong academics aside from a single C in Spanish 2, I don't really think it will cause too much damage.

Yeah, that is pretty much what I figured, was just wondering if maybe there was a way out of it. I know telling the interviewer that the teacher was hard is unacceptable. I was taking 6 classes that semester (hard sciences) and Spanish 2 was my lowest priority honestly. I'm sure if my course load was a little lighter I could have managed better. It is water under the bridge anyway.

You would like an Act of Congress to absolve you of a course you were "forced" to take against your will.

I doubt it but at least it did not affect the science gpa. Overall gpa is given less weight.

You can try calling your assistant dean or provost's office to see if they can help, but I highly doubt anything can be done.

They made you take a language you did not take during high school ???? I would have just taken the same language in defiance of that stupid policy.

You earned the grade. The end. Excuses to admissions looks worse than the C on your transcript.

Course requirements of all universities are constantly changing. Even if the university agreed to not count it towards your Gpa, dental school would still count it in your aadsas Gpa. The university would never delete a credit from your transcript for no reason other than they no longer require that class.

Would you be mad if you got an A but they took it off your transcript bc it was no longer required? You bet. So the fact that it is no longer required is a distraction from the fact that you blew it off.
