  1. Resident [Any Field]
Hey all,

So I was curious and I did a job search.

I googled Podiatrist jobs and I didn't get anything.

I googled dentist and found tons of jobs

I also googled MD and obviously a lot of jobs

And even Optometrist had some jobs.

Am I looking in the wrong place? Or is the field of Podiatrist really that saturated?

It's not that it's saturated, there's just less podiatrists when compared to those other fields.

As others have said before, I think that alot of jobs are by "word of mouth" whether they be practices looking for associates in residency programs, or existing practices looking for partners to join/sell a practice to. As an RN now, I'll tell you that if I searched "nurse jobs" I would probably get like a million hits or so for various agencies. I would be wary of any job position that comes from a Google Search, as it is usually not a position that I would want to fill because the job couldn't be filled by someone based on reputation alone. I think it was Feli who had a great post about the "best" jobs are those that are sought out by the applicants and not the other way around, search one of his prior posts on the job market, that should explain alot. Take care 🙂

Thanks for the replies!

And I should note, I am not in any way bashing Podiatry. It just concerns me, and i'm sure you too, that we all could potentially be spending 7 long and hard years getting a degree and spending 200k and not find a job in the end.

Did a quick google search so these number might be off but to put things into perspective.

Optometry:
40,000 practicing optometrists
1,200 graduating optometrists/year

Dentistry:
150,000 practicing dentists
4,500 graduating dentists/year

MD/DO:
800,000 practicing MD/DO
20,000 graduating/year

Podiatry:
15,000 practicing podiatrists
500 graduating/year

Podiatry is a small profession. Everyone pretty much knows everyone and jobs circulate via word of mouth.

The best part about being a Doctor is you never have to worry about getting a job. You have the luxury of starting your own business from scratch with a lot to offer in the right community. Self made jobs are the best kind!

Yes there will be jobs available! If not, one of us will hire you.
