Literally, I didn't want to go med school, but my bio major is useless and I don't see what else to do with my life before I end up killing myself. I'm going crazy trying to find out what to do with such a useless major. My parents hate me because I don't really know what to do and they keep yelling at me to do chiropractic school. Which I really, really don't want to do. So, I retook chem 2 and went from an F to a C and failed orgo 1, to retake of course, should I even consider applying, or just take the MCAT and see how that goes?

Hi Jorge,

I think the best thing for you to do is to stop worrying about what you are going to do when you finish your BA. What you should be thinking about though is finish your BA strong. (if you are still in undergrad)

When you finish your BA don't immediately apply to any doctorate program, instead try your best to seek out useful and unique experiences (job/volunteer related) that will help you Grow as a person and to learn more about Yourself. When you've grown to understand yourself more and what you love, pursue it.

But for now, don't trash the remaining courses you have in your BA degree. All BA degrees are essentially useless. A vast majority of them don't lead to a specific career and a lot of the courses you take aren't applicable - however a BA degree opens doors and closes them. How you perform today will affect how many doors are open to your future self. Never screw your future self.

This guy knows his stuff.

I would also add sorry your parents are mad but its not their life its yours figure out what you want and do it. If it takes you 10 to 20 years so be it but do what you want and never settle for less. Aint no shame in being a bartender over a wall street banker.

So firstly go see a therapist if you're legitimately suffering and finding yourself struggling with these issues.

Secondly don't go into medicine unless you legitimately cannot see yourself doing anything except being a doctor.

Is it possible? Yes. That was almost exactly my undergraduate GPA, and after ten years, I went back to school, worked my ass off, and graduated a second time with a GPA a full point higher and started med school six months later.

But should you? That's the one no one can answer but you. It truly doesn't seem like your heart is in it, and it's a lot of work and money and time for you to get there. Before you make the investment, you need to decide what you want.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely rethink this. Is there is pre-dental thread here?

I also agree, going into medicine because you don't know what else to do is a very poor choice assuming you could even get in. If you aren't liking majoring in biology you'd hate health professions schools where you literally study bio and it's related fields for 10 or more hours per day. I agree with previous posters who suggest to look at pursuing other life experiences to determine what you like. Above all else, don't go into a field to please your parents. You'll be miserable, and it is your life so don't make it a miserable one just because you're too afraid to stand up to them.

Become a CRNA jorge. You'll thank me later.

Midlevel careers are where it's at.

Your GPA might not be insurmountable, I had about the same in my UG, had a little over 10 years in another career, and then had a great post bacc and MCAT. When I finally realized medicine was what I wanted I couldn't imagine not being a doctor. If this isn't something you love you'll burn out the first week of med school, but that won't matter because you'll never make it through the admissions process with that attitude.

I hope you can find some peace in your life and please stop worrying about your parent's opinion. If your parents are good people they'll be happy for you when you find whatever it is you want to do with your life.
