I know this has been asked multiple times but... A bit ashamed to say this but after my first semester at a JC I failed miserably due to unexpected circumstances such as homelessness and job loss so I ended up failing my classes with a 0.69 cumulative gpa (13 credits total: [5, 3, 3, 2]). Yes I know horrendous!
Everything is better now life wise, but do I even still have a chance? This semester has been much better by the way with all A's in 12 credits. By using gpa raise calculations I can't tell if I even have a chance in hell. I'm sure this what I want to do. I was a CNA for 2 years and love helping others in the field of medicine, but I want to aim for the top of the ladder. Please help?! Should I aim for some other position since I f-ed up so badly? Is there even still a chance?

It's not really as simple as just calculating your total GPA. If your PS states that you were dealing with homelessness that semester and your transcript is nothing but mostly As - including after you transfer to a university - you'll most likely be fine with a good MCAT. If you're really worried you can always go DO for grade replacement but honestly it's wayyyy too early to decide something like that. So no, you haven't messed up too badly. Just do your best from now on and when you get to the point where you start thinking about applying/taking the MCAT you can then see what options you have available.

EDIT: In the future though, if you know you're in for a tough semester due to a severe illness/problems like you faced your first semester consider withdrawing for that term. It's a lot easier to deal with in the long run!

I agree with this. One semester, especially under the circumstances, would not likely be a bar to medical school if the rest of your transcript was strong. Don't panic!

EDIT: Also investigate whether a retroactive withdrawal is possible by talking to your dean. I had a roommate that was offered one for extraordinary circumstances that weren't as severe as yours, so it might be worth a try. I'm not trying to give you false hope, there is a good shot that it won't work (especially since you are long past the deadline), but sometimes things do work themselves out as it did with my roommate. You don't know unless you try.

If the school doesn't look at cut offs, you have a chance. Just put in your PS or sometime they have another place for you to write an explanation. If your application makes it to a human they will probably take into consideration of your hardships. You better have really good GPA from then on (like 3.8 consistently)
