Hey peeps, so I will be covering as a side gig some call for private group as i complete my fellowship. Pay is $2500 for call (M-F after 5pm, phone only, don't go in at all, get from 0-3 calls/day), and then rounding 1 weekend day, typically 10-12 patients, around 6 hours?, plus the other weekend day just phone call (don't go in at all).
Is that a fair rate?

I don’t think I’d want to take call on patients I didn’t know. I’d be ok with weekend call since you’re rounding and seeing them, but I personally wouldn’t want to cover weekday call. Are there hospitalists to field all medical issues/rapids?

They may say you don’t have to come in, but at the end of the day you’re the physician responsible for the patient.

yes all patients have hospitallists and specialists, and they do all the med issues/rapids.

Are you the attending/primary, or are hospitalists primary? Who transfers a patient if needed? Who orders a stat head CT?

I don't like covering patients I haven't met. We take call on our own patients during the week, but when we were alternating, I still knew most from my call over the weekend, and I also knew if I could trust my partner.

It's up to you what you're comfortable with. I really don't know what a fair rate is, so unfortunately I can't help you much there.

I used to cover 2 units , Friday to Monday, one 8 bed and another 14 bed, 45 mins apart, was primary and not good hospitalist coverage or specialist , was paid $3000 with hospital covering malpractice, never met patients and didn’t have to come in unless weekend admit, very nerve racking to cover , agree with above wouldn’t cover patients you have never met, very risky, only did for a few months
