Just looking for opinions regarding this schedule:

Total of 18 credit hours:

Biology 1 (3 credits)
Biology 1 Lab (1)
Organic Chemistry (3)
Human Anatomy w/Lab (4)
Introduction to Statistics (3)
Intermediate Spanish II (3)
Research seminar (1)

For Human Anatomy w/Lab, I selected the section with the lab portion being online instead of live; was this a good idea?

Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance!

Looks alright to me!

it's very doable. I had a semester when I took cell bio/biochem/ochem/physics all with labs and I survived. You can do it.

I don't know that you'd learn as much in an online anatomy lab, but it certainly does sound easier than a "live" lab. If you're really wanting to learn the material (and I'm sure you do), I'd go for a live option if it's possible.

would schools even accept online anatomy classes? I don't think they would. Does it depend on the school?

I honestly don't know. However, I think we've both pointed out that it is a riskier option. OP, I wouldn't do it. Not only would you learn more, but you could *potentially* run into problems with schools, though we aren't certain of this. It would definitely look better to be a live class, though.

Ok, I will switch to a section with live lab. The one that I'm in right now has "live lectures", only the lab online. But I do agree that I will probably learn more in a fully live environment.

I was wondering about the number of credit hours (18) and combination of orgo, bio, and anatomy, and stars all in the same semester.

Do you guys think it's doable to get a 4.0?

Also, the reason why I want to take stats is because I got a B- in calc 2 last semester (ugh). Do you guys think I will improve my situation if I take stats and get an A?

honestly, only you know yourself and the course load you can handle. However, I think it's doable. You want to show schools you can handle it. Dental school is going to be a tough load as well. Need to show you can handle it. I think you can handle it.

As far as the math thing, I don't know why it wouldn't improve your situation. I believe math classes get put into your science GPA. So doing well in a Math stats class will improve your science GPA. My school also has the psych stats(ridiculously easy)...I don't think that one counts towards the science GPA, but it does fulfill the requirement for stats.

Anatomy makes far more sense live than in lab, you will see the interaction of things more precisely and recognize the interactions better IMO. Go live for anatomy. Anatomy becomes rather simple when you hone memorization skills. Utilize a lot of mnemonics and think of innervations and blood supply as if you're reading a road map, anatomy basically boils down to that.

Do you plan on taking your OChem lab another semester? Is Spanish a cushy class or is it difficult for you? Do you plan to work/volunteer/shadow during this semester? Think about those things before you set your schedule in stone. Personally, I would push back whatever class doesn't fulfill a prereq that you need (like stats) to a different semester.

My school offers Orgo 2 lab, so I will take orgo lab in the Spring. Do any schools have labs for both orgo 1 AND orgo 2?! And is it play that I will have only one semester of orgo lab?

I had labs for ochem 1 and 2. I think most schools require you to have 8 credits of ochem. So that's two labs. I could be wrong.

At my school this orgo lab is worth 2 credits. So, in total, I will have 8 credits. Hopefully, that works as well. 🙂

Keep in mind that quite a few schools don't even mention that the course was taken online on their transcripts. So I'm not sure that OP will even get penalized for it.

Yes I am sure that will! Just want you to succeed!!!

But when they list it in AADSAS, they have to mention if it's online or not.

If its not listed as online on the transcript, they don't *have* to list it as online as no one would catch the mistake. S***** thing to do but I know plenty who have done it.

Regardless of whether or not schools would care, I think the MAIN point here is that the OP would learn more in a physical anatomy lab. Anatomy is something you actually NEED to know for dental school, so it would seem like the obvious option well, learn it.

/endthread 😀

Most important prep for dental school is getting into dental school. If OP needs the online anatomy for scheduling purposes or to get an A, I would go towards that rather than selecting a class for prep purposes.

If you needed to know anatomy before dental school, they wouldn't teach you anatomy in dental school. The undergrad anatomy is nothing more than an appetizer for what lies ahead.

OP can take the online class, but wouldn't it be harder to study for DAT? going to class could give you less material to study for the DAT because you know most of it already from actually learning it the first time.

The only anatomy on the DAT is the most basic of information that should have been covered in Bio 1 and 2. I also don't think its accurate to assume you wouldn't learn anything in an online format.

good point.

The OP already said it isn't a scheduling issue.

Obviously, DS anatomy is going to be much more in-depth than what you learn in undergrad. However, it certainly doesn't hurt to have as strong of a foundation as possible. 🙂
