Hello,
I was discussing this with a friend and this came up. I took a class with a professor whose class I did very well in and found the subject matter very interesting. The professor has an academic event coming up that he's hosting on a different university campus (not my own university, just another college) and I asked if I could come because I genuinely enjoy the subject matter. I took his class a few semesters ago but I still run into him on campus.

I will likely be asking him for a letter of rec and was wondering if the above is violating the non fraternization policy in any way?

I don't see how it could be wrong in any way? Of course this is not a romantic relationship (he's married!!! and the idea of faculty-student relationships freak me out anyway) but my friend said any form of socialization (esp since this is off campus) is against university policy.

Is this against the non-fraternization policy schools have?

I am concerned since he is my letter writer and I don't want med schools to think I violated school policy.

Attending an academic event at another campus being hosted by a faculty member who taught you in a class and who will be writing a LOR for you is not fraternization.

A romantic relationship would fall under that policy as would one party inviting the other to attend cultural or sporting events especially if the tickets were expensive or hard to come by and the invitation could be seen as a kind of bribe or the development of a relationship that is less than objective.
