There's this opportunity with my local VA hospital for something called the Compassionate Contact Corps (CCC), whose mission is to support and to improve the well-being of Veterans through volunteers who provide weekly video contact, companionship, and conversation in a friendly, compassionate, and supportive interaction for their mental health. Either way I'm interested in this opportunity because it fits nicely with my schedule and passions, but I'm wondering what to classify it as. Thanks!!

Nonclinical. I’m a big advocate of working with vets. Too bad this opportunity is via Zoom or whatever. Meeting and working with vets in person is a wonderful experience . Maybe you can do both.

Ask if your local VA has something like a patient escort program. I did that for a year and it was fun, even though I was the youngest volunteer in that group by at least 50 years!

FYI I tried to do this program for like 2 years and they kept giving me vets that were in and out of the ICU and unable to talk. I literally never spoke to someone in 2 years. Kinda a waste of time unfortunately. See if you can do something in person, the VA staff aren't really motivated to make this program work.

You could definitely classify it as volunteer work or community service since you’re providing companionship and conversation. It also has elements of mental health support, which is pretty cool
