Is this bad?

Does it look bad to do research for credit? I originally started out volunteering, but my school says that I can get credit for the research if I want. I figured I might as well since I am doing 10+ hours of research per week. I'm planning on taking 5 credits…is this disadvantageous?
The only disadvantage is that you aren't getting paid, but you weren't anyways while you were volunteering.

Well when you volunteer, you are not paying anyone but when you take it for credit you are actually paying tuition to do it but otherwise there is no difference.

If anything it's a plus since some schools will count a rec from a research PI as a science professor required rec, but only if you get credit for the research.
