How do you answer this type of question?

If it is my number one school, I definitely make it known that it is my number one; however, how do you respond to the question when you are interviewing at a number "2,3,4,and so on school?"

where ever you are interviewing, that school is your number one school for that day.

say definitely in your top 3.. if u reallyyyy dont feel its convincing to say its your number 1 with no specific reason.
Thats wat i would do

What I said when asked that question was that I had a few schools that I liked (including the one I was interviewing at), but that the interviews were really going to impact which one was #1. I couldn't really say which was #1 at the time as I hadn't visited them all.

They seemed to like that answer, and I got accepted.

Just tell them that school is your #1.
They will accept those that want to come if accepted.

no mine is not the number one

i think that if you have no acceptances, than a good answer would be that your number one school will be the one who accepts you first, so they should call early and often on december 1st!

I would answer by saying that I have not made a decision yet. After I visit every school, I will make a decision by comparing all of the attributes of each school. However, after visiting the school today I am very much impressed with blah blah blah...

I got asked that question:
I replied with a somewat not great answer.
I said, " I am interested in a lot of schools and this school is definitely one of my top choices. Of course, each school brings something unique. No dental school in the country are alike when you compare them side by side. If I am lucky to be accecpted to multiple schools. I will have some serious thinking to do. From talking to the students today and take a closer peek, I really like it here!"

I don't see what's wrong with peerless's answer. Did your interview go poorly after answering it that way?

I was in a tough spot when I was interviewing at an out-of-state school and they asked me if I would attend my in-state school if I was accepted there considering a huge difference in the tuition overall. I told them I really liked the school so far and I am definitely keeping my options open.

Admissions committees know for a fact that we apply to multiple schools. Some admissions directors have said so explicitly on campus visits (such as Indiana's director). I wouldn't tell the interviewer that school X is your absolute top if it's not, but you should still show interest by saying it's "one of the top choices" or a "strong contender" or something along those lines.. that should make them feel good 😀
