Hi, this summer, I did an internship at a hospital in my town. It allowed us to shadow many healthcare professions across various specialties. I wasn't with an MD the whole time, but for one of my rotations, I was with one the entire time ( ~20 hrs). When I fill out my AMCAS, can I put this as shadowing and list the internship coordinator as the contact? I've already began to do shadowing on my own, but was wondering if this counted.
Yes, the 20-hour experience counts as physician shadowing and the other healthcare-profession shadowing would be clinical observation. The program coordinator is fine to use as a Contact for as many of those experiences as you care to list.

Keep in mind though that due to space limitations (most list all their shadowing in one slot), and the additional physician shadowing you have plans for, you may find it best to limit your list to physicians only, so you have some space for description.

I'm going to partially disagree. In an era of interprofessional health care practice, it's a shadowing experience that for organizational purposes I would list it once and describe the hours with a physician or not when prompted. I agree the internship coordinator is the contact. I'm not quite a fan of separating "clinical observation" from "physician shadowing" because you should be observing/shadowing the entire system of care and how people interact within that specific culture.

Just a clarification that on AMCAS, the available tag to categorize an Activity slot is "Physician Shadowing/Clinical Observation." I was not suggesting that more than one space be used, but I do feel that non-physician professions should each be specified, as well as physician specialties.
