Hey guys I just registered for my classes next semester and am wondering if this is too crammed of a schedule.

12 credits
-Biology of Toxins
-Intro to Biochem
-Virology
-Immunology

Anyone with experience taking some of these courses or have taken a rigorous class schedule able to offer any advice or support?

I plan on limiting my work schedule quite a bit as well as not doing some other extracurricular activities that I'm usually accustomed to during the school semesters. It would just be really convenient to get these classes out of the way so my final semester can be more relaxed.

For the most part you can probably decide that based on your course history. If I remember, 12 credits was the minimum for full-time at my school, 14-15 being the average, and maxing at 18 (quarter system)

Biochem and immunology bundle might be a lot of memorization - I didn't take it at the same time, but added to the other two it might be a lot. Can you spread these classes out a few semesters? You're goal is to just do well.

With MCAT studying and limited EC’s it’s definitely doable, I just question why you’d do it

It is the minimum for a full course load and I initially wanted to graduate in the Summer so I could spread them out for this and the Summer. The only problem is they don't offer virology in the Summer as well as biochem so I'd potentially have to wait until the Fall of next year to graduate.

The memorization is what I'm worried about. I usually do flash cards for this and having these four classes might be difficult for me personally to manage.

Only you can answer this question.

12 credits is on the low side of hours.

Med school will be a LOT harder, BTW.

I don't think the problem is 12 credits. I did that or 13 multiple times and it wasn't a problem. But the selection that you had is somewhat difficult in combination. None of them are impossible on their own and I personally would find all of them interesting but trying to do them together could be a challenge. You theoretically will have the time. The question is - do you have the willpower?

All depends on you - I took Ochem 1, Gen chem 3, Physics 1, bio 1, physics lab and a research project for 20 credits and got a 4.0 in every class with little effort. I have also taken just Cell Bio and Biochem with 4 research credits (14 credits total) and just barely got the 4.0 in Biochem and cell with massive amounts of effort.

The credit hours really don’t mean anything, the most important thing is your will to do well and the reputation of the professors.

Content-wise none of those classes are super heavy or conceptual/abstract. Maintain full time for your financial aids sake if it is necessary, but really only you can answer what you can do with different class schedules.

I would like to say that I do have the willpower to do this and am hoping to prove it to myself and my family with a 4.0 or higher if possible. Fortunately for me I'm a nontraditional student receiving no scholarships or loans at the moment so if worst comes to worst I'll drop one of the classes and retake it later in the year however I really don't want to.

Walk in the park...just make sure you don't dig a hole in your GPA.:corny:
