I just wanted to give fair warning to those who applied to Tufts this current year and to those in the future.

Last year I applied very late, with average grades and average DAT scores. I was fortunate enough the receive an interview invite (late mind you) to Tufts as well another school. Unfortunately I got waitlisted by both schools.

Tufts, as some may be aware of requires a deposit of $750 to remain on the waitlist. I went ahead and waited. In the mean time I completed more credits, took the DATs and got ready to apply again.

This past summer I called Tufts to find out my status on the waitlist and was told " I have little chance of getting off the waitlist because there are many more qualified candidates before me and I should not expect to gain acceptance." So with no chance of acceptance, the held my $750 until September.

In the 2008 cycle,I applied early, my GPA was improved greatly from when when I was invited to Tufts, my DAT scores up by at least 2 points in every section and I have more interning and shadowing experience. Yet it is not January and I have not heard ANYTHING from Tufts.... (thankfully I was invited to interview at 9 other schools with 5 acceptances)

Just wanted to give fair warning to those considering Tufts, I am sure I am not the only one treated in this manner. Tufts must be schizophrenic...... either that or they are just trying to rip us off.

Tufts, as some may be aware of requires a deposit of $750 to remain on the waitlist.

I can understand them having this deposit in place, in case students back out and the school has at least some compensation for considering the candidate. But if the prospective student has every intention of attending but isn't given the opportunity, seems pretty harsh for them to keep that rather sizeable deposit.

no they did.... but it was at least 3 months after they told me I had no chance of being accepted. So... why waitlist me at all... to see if I pull out so they can keep the money?

I think different schools just utilize the waitlist very differently.
While some schools put a very limited number of applicants on their waitlist, some schools put a lot more (usually schools with a bigger entering class size).

I didn't apply to Tufts so I don't know the general atmosphere at the school, but I am sure they were just trying to take money from waitlisted students.

Well, congratulations on getting accepted to 5 schools! I hope you got into your top choice!! 🙂😀😎

With so many qualified applicants nowadays, many of us often fall through the cracks. I dont think it's anything personal!

"...should not expect to gain acceptance" does not mean "expect a rejection." It just means that you shouldn't get your hopes up.

The admissions process is vicarious at times and prone to human error. Consistency can't be expected. Tufts is still a great school, regardless.
